Small Scale Purification Scientist-Bioprocess Design Center
Thermo Fisher Scientific
The Small-Scale Purification Scientist designs and executes downstream purification experiments for Thermo Fisher Scientific's bioprocess technologies. The role involves hands-on laboratory work, process optimization, data analysis, and collaboration across integrated workflow development in a Plainville, MA facility.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute small-scale downstream purification experiments spanning capture, intermediate, and polishing operations
- Execute chromatography and filtration processes using Thermo Fisher single-use systems with minimal supervision
- Analyze experimental data, identify trends, and author protocols, technical reports, and SOPs
- Support customer visits and technical demonstrations by communicating experimental intent, methods, and results
- Maintain safe, compliant laboratory environment and contribute to continuous improvement of workflows
Requirements
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or related field with 3–5 years downstream experience
- M.S. degree with 2–3 years relevant downstream purification experience
- Hands-on experience with chromatography, filtration, UF/DF, and single-use systems
- Proficiency with data analysis tools, technical writing, and laboratory documentation
- Familiarity with AKTA, HPLC, LCMS, and analytical instruments
- Demonstrated ability to design controlled experiments; Design of Experiments (DoE) experience preferred
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
