Experience: Minimum of one year as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist

License: State Radiology Technologist License

Certifications: BLS, CNMT or ARRT(N)

Description: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist utilizes imaging, computer, and other equipment as appropriate to produce and retain high-quality diagnostic images. This work must meet or exceed department and industry standards. The technologist demonstrates thorough knowledge of human anatomy and physiology as well as image quality. Applying professional knowledge, the technologist prepares patients for procedures and educates them while addressing questions or concerns. An age-appropriate approach to communication, safety needs, and patient education is essential. The technologist ensures principles of physical and functional growth and development are applied. Understanding of patient positioning, imaging techniques, radiation safety, infection control, and quality control techniques is demonstrated. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist oversees and trains students who provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training. Responsibilities include:

• Verifying the ordered exam and its appropriateness using assessment data and principles of growth and development.
• Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
• Positioning the patient and equipment to achieve optimal images.
• Utilizing imaging, computer, and other equipment to produce and retain high-quality diagnostic images that meet standards.
• Working with physicians to evaluate images and determine if additional images are needed.
• Applying radiation safety techniques and devices to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
• Educating and responding to patients' questions or concerns.
• Ensuring an age-appropriate approach to communication, safety needs, patient education, and principles of physical and functional growth and development.
