Compensation Range: $63,003.00 - $80,600.00
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities
Under general direction and with considerable latitude for independent judgment, conducts individual, family, and group therapy for children & adolescents on an acute inpatient unit. Works closely and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team. Subscribes to the Departmental goals of creating an equitable and culturally competent environment by treating patients, families, and co-workers in a respectful manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences. Position includes some weekends and early evenings.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a primary therapist to patients on the Rapid Stabilization Pathway, providing an intensive therapeutic intervention to patients and families in a 3-4-day admission. This may include beginning evaluation / treatment with patients while they are still in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program.
- Participates collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide coordinated care.
- Provides group therapy to all patients on the unit.
- Documents treatment in patients' electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations. Meets minimum target for clinical productivity set by service director.
- Collaborates with other professionals both internal and external throughout patient care activities. Mobilizes family and natural support networks when clinically indicated.
- Assesses successful completion of therapeutic goals and coordinates to plan discharges accordingly.
- Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with community and health care agencies, as well as professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University.

Minimum Education & Experience
- Master's degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling required.
- Experience working in clinical setting with children / adolescents and families, including group therapy required.
- Experience with acute services (inpatient, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, crisis services) strongly preferred.
- Candidates must be able to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Maintains professional CEU requirements by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences strongly preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Requires NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) or limited permit eligible. If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 36 months to obtain the NYS license.
