Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Embark on a meaningful contract opportunity supporting students who are Deaf or hard of hearing in vibrant school settings in the Sugar Land, TX area. Two positions are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters: a full-time interpreter at a junior high (Fulshear, TX, August 11, 2026–May 26, 2027), and a part-time, short-term interpreter at a high school (Richmond, TX, August 11, 2026–October 13, 2026). Both roles are on-site and involve 35 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours during extracurricular activities such as choir, dance, and cheer.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Interpreter certification from the Registry for the Deaf or the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (required)
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Prior experience working with children in educational or related settings
- Ability to pass district fingerprinting requirements (if not already on file)
- Adaptable, committed to student confidentiality, and able to act in dynamic school environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and impartial sign language interpretation during classes, school-related activities, meetings, and ARD committees
- Support students’ participation in extracurricular events, with flexible hours during seasonal activities (e.g., football season)
- Tutor Deaf or hard of hearing students as directed by classroom teachers
- Maintain thorough administrative documentation and assist with required reporting
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to monitor and respond to students’ communication needs and behaviors
- Attend professional development, faculty meetings, and special events
- Uphold strict confidentiality and district standards in all duties
