The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

POSITION DESIGNATION

This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.

DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION

The Construction Project Manager position provides expertise and support for the Engineering Division’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Currently, the CIP has approximately $75 million in design and $112 million in construction projects. Projects may range from minor electrical repairs to multi-million-dollar construction projects. The Construction Project Managers average between 10 to 15 projects per year depending on the size and scope of the project. Projects managed include but are not limited to new building construction, renovation and repair projects for all City departments, the State Fair Park, the Downtown Arena and Cox Convention Center, the Civic Center, Parks, Fire, Police, Libraries, Transit and Economic Development.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in the Project Management Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. Construction Project Manager is a full proficiency, para-professional classification responsible for the administration and/or supervision of major components of engineering projects. Specialized work areas include water, storm sewer, paving, building, or sanitary sewer construction. Essential job functions include : reviewing or coordinating plans, specifications, and construction for projects prepared by the City within an assigned functional area both in house and at field locations; reviewing plans prepared by consultants that may impact the area; preparing various documents and reports; determining and monitoring funding allocations; and distributing required information to coordinate and facilitate construction. Construction Project Managers may supervise technical staff, with work products subject to review by a Civil Engineer or other immediate supervisor.

  • Experience in successfully working with architects, engineers, contractors, City and State code officials, project stakeholders and municipality leaders.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Word and Excel).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily indoors in a climate-controlled environment; outside occasionally; exposed to heat, cold, humidity, rain, etc.
  • Subject to exposure to moving parts from machinery, power tools, and vehicles in motion.
  • Subject to exposure to intermittent or continued loud and incessant noises caused by machinery and construction equipment.
  • Subject to exposure to large amounts of dust.
  • Subject to exposure to varying amounts of noxious odors.
  • Subject to occasional local and out-of-town travel.
  • Occasionally required to work beyond normal working hours.

Note : Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Near vision enough to read and draft written communications; including the ability to read the fine print found in specification books and on reduced copies of maps and plans, computer-generated reports, etc.
  • Hearing and speech enough to communicate via telephone or in-person.
  • Hand and arm steadiness and manual dexterity enough to operate standard office equipment such as personal computers, ten-keys, telephones, and faxes; and to compose written and electronically generated correspondence.
