Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical care for a 13-week contract assignment in Gardner, Massachusetts. This role is based in a dynamic hospital setting, providing comprehensive care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for applying the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring adherence to established standards of practice and protocols. This includes managing patient pain, administering medications, monitoring cardiac rhythms, and preparing patients for discharge, all while maintaining a focus on patient dignity and safety.

This position requires a proactive approach to patient care, strong collaborative skills with interdisciplinary teams, and a commitment to continuous professional development. You will play a crucial role in promoting a positive healing environment and ensuring continuity of care for all assigned patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized plans of care, and evaluate outcomes.
• Provide direct patient care in accordance with established standards, protocols, and policies.
• Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure integrated patient care.
• Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely and accurately, following physician orders.
• Assess and manage patient pain levels, documenting responses and adjusting interventions as needed.
• Interpret and document patient cardiac rhythms, initiating appropriate interventions based on provider orders.
• Provide ongoing assessment and teaching for surgical patients, utilizing current standards.
• Identify and report changes in patient condition or deviant progress patterns to the physician in a timely manner.
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot medical equipment such as traction devices, feeding pumps, chest tubes, and drains.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by other healthcare personnel as appropriate.
• Prioritize patient care effectively, seeking assistance or reassigning personnel when necessary, and recognizing the need for emergency intervention.
• Maintain thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all patient data, interventions, and responses.
• Proactively identify risks to patient safety and contribute to error reduction through appropriate reporting.
• Promote a positive working environment and engage in professional development activities.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of Telemetry experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of Pediatrics experience.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in patient assessment, care planning, and evaluation.
• Expertise in medication administration and IV therapy.
• Strong pain management and cardiac monitoring skills.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot various medical equipment (e.g., traction, feeding pumps, chest tubes, drains).
