Joining a new Wayfair store launch means being part of something special from Day 1. During the first several weeks, you will work alongside the team to help set up, organize, and prepare the store for opening, which will look different from your long‑term day‑to‑day responsibilities. This hands‑on, team‑first experience helps bring our store to life and sets us up for success once we open our doors to the community and our customers. Overview Wayfair is transforming how people shop for their homes and our store environments are central to that experience. As a Facilities Specialist in our physical retail location, you’ll take ownership of the systems and equipment that keep our space running. Whether you’re fine‑tuning equipment, troubleshooting HVAC issues, or mentoring others on the team, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and polished store environment. This role is ideal for a skilled maintenance professional who thrives on independence, problem‑solving, and making things work behind the scenes. What Does a Facilities Specialist Do? Tackle Technical Challenges: Maintain and troubleshoot systems and complex material handling equipment. Proficiency with relay logic, ladder diagrams, sensors, drives, and inverters is key. Lead Through Action: Serve as a mentor to fellow team members by providing real‑time coaching and technical guidance to improve skills and performance. Optimize Our Systems: Contribute to the design, layout, and reconfiguration of facility systems as needed to support evolving business needs. Stay Organized and On Schedule: Use our CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to plan, track, and complete work orders and preventative maintenance. Operate Equipment Safely: Regularly work on aerial lifts, boom lifts, forklifts, and other powered industrial trucks to reach all areas of the facility. Keep It Clean and Ready: Maintain a tidy, well‑stocked workspace and ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order. Respond Quickly: Perform emergency repairs during high‑pressure situations while adhering to all safety protocols. Operate as "One Team": You will support Wayfair’s total store goals by cross‑training across key store functions, including sales and back‑of‑house operations. You’ll flex where needed to support customers, teammates, store needs and peak business periods. You’ll Thrive In This Role If You Have Technical Expertise: 4–6 years of experience in facilities or maintenance roles (preferred), ideally in a retail, distribution, or manufacturing environment. Advanced Troubleshooting Skills: Able to read and interpret electrical schematics and perform diagnostics on high‑voltage systems (120, 240, 480 VAC) and low‑voltage DC (24VDC). Tool Proficiency: Skilled with hand and power tools, multimeters, and computer‑based diagnostics. Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with PLC systems, HVAC components, and fire protection systems. Agility and Strength: Able to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders, bend, kneel, crawl, and work on your feet for long periods, often in a non‑climate‑controlled environment. Detail Orientation: High level of accuracy when performing repairs and maintaining records. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required) Flexibility: Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled overtime, as needed. Commitment to Safety: Follows lockout/tagout procedures and wears personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc flash gear and safety shoes. Additional Physical And Environmental Requirements Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling. Mobility & Movement: Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day. Lifting Ability: Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently on a regular basis.
