What you’ll do: Responsibilities/Duties: Facilitates process of patient management in the surgical center. Participates in making pre-op calls to patients if possible. Collaborates with the front office staff on intake process as needed. Assists with pre-op assessment and teaching. Plans and prepares for interoperative nursing care of the patient. Gathers equipment and supplies based on patient needs. Able to create and maintain multiple sterile fields/observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis. Functions in the role of Scrub and Circulating nurse. Performs sponge, sharps and instrument counts as required. Administers medications and solutions as prescribed. Position and prepare patient on operating table. Monitors and controls the environment. Adheres to safety standards and precautions. Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel. Participates in maintaining and assuring proper functioning of equipment and sterilizing procedures. Performs in emergency situations. Evaluates readiness for patient discharge and collaborates with the anesthesiologist in the discharge process. Reports any potential or actual adverse event as appropriate. Documents clearly and maintains the patient record. Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians. Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Minimum two years of recent operating room nursing preferred. Working knowledge of office equipment and Software. Familiarity with HIPAA, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies. Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette. Understanding of electronic medical systems. Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone). Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties. Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts. Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task. Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately. Ability to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public by demonstrating empathy and tact. Must be a team player with a positive attitude, the ability to work effectively with a diverse population, and the ability to demonstrate patience and professionalism. Maintains the strictest confidentiality on all patient issues. Registered Nurse with orthopedic perioperative experience desired. Current Massachusetts RN license. BLS certifications required.
