Bus Driver Substitute

The job of the Bus Driver Substitute is done for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.

Responsibilities include advising students and other passengers of appropriate behavior; assessing incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations; assisting students and other passengers; attending meetings, trainings, etc.; cleaning assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior; conducting emergency evacuation drills; driving school bus(es); fueling assigned vehicle, (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.); performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.); preparing documents and reports, (e.g. field trip reports, incident reports, inspection records, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, etc.); reporting observations and/or incidents, (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.); responding to inquiries, (e.g. students, parents, other school personnel, etc.); supervising students and other passengers during transit; assisting other personnel as may be required.

Experience is desired. Substitute will work on an as needed basis with hours to vary. $19.40 per hour - depending on experience; w/Certificate. $15.80 per hour during District provided training for new bus drivers. Position is non-benefitted.

Qualifications - Alcohol and Drug Test; Pre-placement Physical Exam; Criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance; Random drug testing; Ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
