Staff Nurse IThe Staff Nurse I provides clinical care and uses coordination skills for every patient served. This includes understanding of the expected patients served in the unit’s nursing care is delivered using the Eskenazi Health Model of Care-Synergy, the ability to coordinate with the patient and family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to meet patient care needs. This is a full-time weekday night shift position (7pm – 7am).Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values.Effectively prioritizes to meet the individual needs of the patient, utilizing the Synergy Model.Rapidly identifies and appropriately intervenes, in a crisis situation, to achieve optimal patient outcomes.Makes sound clinical decisions with the ability to articulate rationale behind decisions, incorporating Evidence Based Practice.Serves as a clinical resource to others.Medication administration is timely, in accordance to hospital policy.Medication knowledge base is at the level allowing sound clinical decision making.Area specific technical skills: Knowledgeable in performing and assisting with procedures; Proficiency in use of unit specific equipment.Reflective of hospital and unit specific standards.Pain assessment and reassessment documented per hospital policy.Documentation reflects evidence of appropriate patient/significant other teaching.Presence of Discharge planning and teaching.Ensures appropriate utilization of all IT systems for patient care.Effectively acts as a Preceptor and supports the development of other staff and formal learners.Supports and participates in Shared Governance initiatives.Participates in identification of clinical or operational PI opportunities, using Evidence Based Practice, e.g. Handwashing compliance.Promotes teamwork and serves as a Mentor for new staff.Maintains state of Regulatory Readiness/Follows the National Patient Safety.Job Requirements:Current Indiana license as a Registered NurseRN degree from a national accredited college or universityCurrent BLS certification; other certifications may be required in specific units of practiceKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Operates specialized equipmentCompetence/accountability in preparing and administering medications and treatments according to policy and proceduresEffective communication skills incorporating listening, effective interviewing techniques with patients and staff appropriate to age of the patientKnowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients servedKnowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data/interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needsUses age-appropriate communication and cognitive skills detailed in the department/area/unit job-specific/age-specific competenciesFundamental nursing theories, current clinical concepts, diseases/symptoms, trauma, treatments/medications, triage, appropriate diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and interventionsFunctions as a member of a health care team, delegate responsibilities/duties appropriatelyFollows oral/written instructions, records/interprets information accuratelyCompetency in assessing, responding to patient status or needs, and interpreting resultsRecognizes and reacts to changes in patient status, documents and reports changesPerforms CPR and other technical skillsPositions patientsMust be able to wash hands thoroughly and frequentlyMust be able to help evacuate patients via stairwellsCritical thinking skills are essentialAccredited by The Joint Commission and named one of the nation’s 150 best places to work by Becker’s Hospital Review for four consecutive years and Forbes list of best places to work for women, and Forbes list of America’s best midsize employers.
