Liquids Terminal Operator 1

The Liquids Terminal Operator 1 is responsible for the safe, efficient, and smooth operation of various terminal functions, including truck unloading/loading, maintaining terminal cleanliness, assisting with dock and tank farm operations, and adhering to safety protocols. The operator will also apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills, contribute to routine operational tasks, and engage in ongoing training to develop skills.
Key Responsibilities, Expectations, and Success Indicators: 1. Adherence to Safety Policies and Procedures Responsibilities:• Strictly follow all terminal and safety policies and procedures, including hazard identification and risk management.
• Perform regular safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with operational and environmental safety standards.
• Participate in regular safety training, operations training, shift change and drills.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its proper use by others in the workplace.
• Report safety hazards, near-misses, and incidents immediately. Expectations:
• Zero accidents or incidents related to non-compliance with safety procedures.
• Active involvement in maintaining a safety-first culture, adhering to safety meetings, and promoting safe practices within the team.
• Understanding and implementation of safety requirements for equipment operation, material handling, and emergency response. 2. Truck Unloading and Loading Operations Responsibilities:
• Safely and efficiently unload and load trucks, ensuring compliance with operational procedures.
• Inspect trucks, product documentation, and materials for accuracy, integrity, and safety.
• Operate terminal equipment (e.g., pumps, valves, hoses) to transfer materials to and from trucks while adhering to safe handling practices.
• Ensure trucks are properly sealed and secure before departing. Expectations:
• Quick, accurate, and safe completion of truck unloading/loading processes.
• Minimized operational errors, with all materials transferred according to company and regulatory standards.
• Minimal delays or disruptions in operations due to loading or unloading inefficiencies. 3. Terminal Cleanliness Responsibilities:
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe terminal environment, including the dock areas, loading zones, and equipment.
• Perform regular cleaning of work areas, equipment, and common spaces.
• Address spills or other cleanliness concerns immediately to prevent accidents or contamination. Expectations:
• Terminal areas should be free of hazards, clutter, and unsafe conditions.
• Clean, tidy, and operationally efficient workspaces that support overall terminal functionality. 4. Proactive Problem Solving Responsibilities:
• Identify potential problems before they become major issues and take preventive measures.
• Troubleshoot minor operational issues (e.g., equipment malfunctions, procedural discrepancies) and resolve them independently or escalate as needed.
• Collaborate with supervisors and coworkers to address recurring issues or inefficiencies in terminal operations. Expectations:
• Demonstrate a proactive mindset by anticipating challenges and resolving issues quickly and efficiently.
- Decrease the likelihood of operational disruptions caused by preventable issues.
• Analyze terminal operations to identify inefficiencies and propose improvements.
• Use critical thinking to assess risks and make informed, quick decisions when faced with operational challenges or emergencies.
• Evaluate the impacts of operational changes and adapt strategies as needed. Expectations:
• Use logical reasoning and a methodical approach to solve complex problems, particularly under pressure.

• Successful completion of tasks that require critical decision-making, such as equipment failure resolution or safety hazard management. 6. Assist Dock Operations as Needed Responsibilities:
• Provide support to the dock operations, including helping with the loading and unloading of goods, coordinating with drivers, and managing inventory.
• Assist with maintaining the flow of materials between docks, storage areas, and processing points.
• Ensure dock operations run smoothly, with minimal disruptions. Expectations:
• Flexibility in assisting various dock functions, including equipment handling, documentation verification, and material organization.
• Proficiency in dock operations and safety protocols.
• Efficient and timely support to ensure operations meet terminal goals. 7. Assist Tank Farm Operations as Needed Responsibilities:
• Support tank farm operations, such as monitoring tank levels, assisting with product transfers, and ensuring proper equipment function.
• Regularly inspect tanks and associated infrastructure to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Assist in maintaining proper product flow between tanks and unloading/loading stations. Expectations:
• Proficiency in tank farm operations and safety protocols.
• Adherence to environmental and safety guidelines while performing tasks. 8. Commitment to Training and Skill Building Responsibilities:
• Participate in mandatory and voluntary training sessions to enhance operational knowledge, safety practices, and technical skills.
• Stay updated on industry standards and best practices for terminal operations.
• Actively seek opportunities to cross-train in various terminal roles (e.g., dock, tank farm, loading/unloading). Expectations:
• Consistent progress in professional development through training and certifications.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new processes or systems as required by the terminal.
- 9. Perform Routine Tasks at the Terminal
• Complete daily routine tasks to ensure smooth terminal operations, including routine checks, cleaning, equipment inspections, and record-keeping.
• Monitor inventory, verify equipment functionality, and report any maintenance issues promptly.
• Assist with general housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. Expectations:
• Consistent and timely performance of routine tasks, ensuring minimal disruption to terminal operations.
• Attention to detail in daily inspections, reporting, and documentation. Overall Success Indicators for Terminal Operator 1:
• Safety Compliance: Zero accidents, incidents, or violations related to safety, with active participation in the safety culture.
• Operational Efficiency: High performance in truck unloading/loading, dock and tank farm operations, and completion of routine tasks without delay or error.
• Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Proactive identification and resolution of operational issues, with positive outcomes from the use of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Teamwork and Collaboration: Effective collaboration with coworkers across various areas of the terminal (dock, tank farm, safety).
• Training and Development: Ongoing growth in skills and knowledge through regular training, certification, and cross-training in terminal functions. By meeting these responsibilities and expectations, Terminal Operator 1 will contribute to a safe, efficient, and high-performing terminal operation, driving overall operational success and continuous improvement. Qualification and Education Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- A High School diploma or GES is required.
- 1+ years of experience in similar setting is preferred
- Ability to learn quickly and to work as part of a team
- Valid TWIC card
- Must possess and maintain and valid US Drivers license.
- Must pass all pre-employment testing including a drug test, physical, and background check
- Basic mathematical ability and understanding is required to successfully perform tank measurements, read gauges, set up product transfers into and out of tanks. This includes the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, convert fractions to decimals and vice versa. etc.
- Operator must be able to work at heights and around water at marine facility.
- Work is done outdoors; must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
- Frequesntly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
