$21 to $30 an hour, based on experience. Full-time, direct hire, day hours, at a small tool shop in Dayton.

Flexible hours. Come in as early as 6:00 AM. Some here work 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Thursday and a half day Friday. Extra hours and weekends are there when the work is.

This is a small shop: the owner and a handful of toolmakers. We build fixtures and gauges, much of it for automotive customers. Some jobs hold plus or minus .0001", and some are simple. You see your own jobs through: machine it, grind it, send it to heat treat and get it out the door.

The shop:

- Hurco CNC mills

- Bridgeport mills with ProtoTrak controls

- A toolroom lathe (you index the tools yourself)

- OD and surface grinders, plus a jig grinder

The work:

- Build fixtures and gauges from blueprints and CAD models

- Mostly mill work, with some lathe and grinding

- Maintain and repair fixtures and gauges

- Jig grinding experience is a big plus

You need:

- Some hands-on toolroom or machine shop experience. The senior toolmakers will train you on the rest.

- Able to read blueprints and measure to tight tolerances

No degree required. Experience is what counts.
