Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit

Location: The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY

Department: 9 West Stepdown Unit (MPCU)

Start Date: August 3, 2026

Shift:

• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• 3 shifts per week (12 hour shifts)

Position Overview
The Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the 9 West Stepdown Unit. The Clinical Nurse provides safe, high-quality, evidence-based patient care to medically complex patients requiring close monitoring. The ideal candidate will have recent Stepdown experience, ventilator management experience, and a strong background in cardiology and telemetry nursing.



Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care using evidence-based practice and the nursing process.
• Assess, monitor, and evaluate patients with complex medical conditions requiring stepdown-level care.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
• Provide care for patients requiring ventilator support and advanced monitoring.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, disease management, and discharge planning.
• Perform accurate and timely documentation using EPIC.
• Participate in bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, and patient safety initiatives.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Perform charge nurse responsibilities as assigned and assist with patient throughput and resource coordination.

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Current AHA ACLS Certification.
• Minimum of two (2) years of Stepdown Unit experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years of RN experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years of cardiology, telemetry, and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) experience.
• Ventilator (Vent) management experience is required.
• EPIC electronic medical record experience highly preferred.

• Candidates must have recent Stepdown Unit experience and ventilator experience .
