ICU Nurse Opportunity

The Intensive Care Units at The George Washington University Hospital deliver advanced, high-acuity care to some of the most critically ill patients in the region. ICU nurses here are not limited to a single specialty unitour team practices across all critical care areas, gaining broad expertise while supporting diverse patient populations with complex, life-threatening conditions.

Our ICUs include:

• Medical ICU 32 beds: Complex medical critical care
• Surgical ICU 24 beds: Post-operative and surgical specialty care
• Trauma ICU 20 beds: High-acuity trauma and resuscitation
• Neuro ICU 20 beds: Neurological and neurosurgical critical care
• Cardiovascular ICU 24 beds: Advanced cardiac, surgical cardiac, and ECMO support

Working across these units, ICU nurses develop mastery in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, advanced pharmacologic therapies, and multidisciplinary critical care collaboration.

Responsibilities

Patient Care: Provide evidence-based, compassionate care to critically ill medical patients.

Monitoring: Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and continuous infusions; respond to rapid patient changes.

Collaboration: Partner with intensivists, specialists, respiratory therapists, and care teams to deliver comprehensive care.

Critical Thinking: Manage complex cases including multi-organ failure, sepsis, and respiratory distress.

Advocacy: Support patients and families through critical illness with empathy and education.

Documentation: Ensure precise and timely charting of patient care.

Education: Guide families through disease processes and recovery expectations.

Quality Improvement: Contribute to improving ICU outcomes and best practices.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or currently enrolled

Washington, D.C. RN license or eligibility

2 years full-time (or 4 years part-time) critical care experience

BLS and ACLS required
