Job Description

West Side Christian School’s Elementary Teacher integrates faith and learning to create a positive, engaging, and Christ-centered classroom environment. The successful candidate will inspire students to achieve academic excellence while serving as the spiritual leader of the classroom.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a consistent walk with Jesus Christ in attitude, speech, and actions
  • Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities
  • Lead students in developing skills in mathematics, English and language arts, science, history, and Biblical studies
  • Prepare a classroom environment that is safe, positive, and that encourages students to take risks in their learning
  • Ensure students’ conduct conforms to all school policies and procedures
  • Plan through the use of yearly and quarterly goals and objectives, and create and maintain weekly lesson plans
  • Provide a variety of age-appropriate learning materials and resources for use in elementary education.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Collaborate with other teachers to differentiate instruction and to plan and coordinate lessons and/or events
  • Participate in beginning of the year staff orientation, monthly staff meetings, and parent/teacher conference meetings
  • Respect the need for confidentiality concerning information related to students, parents, or staff
  • Maintain regular and accurate records of attendance and grades throughout the school year

General Responsibilities -

  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, and promptly return phone calls and answer emails

  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities and training

  • Take part in school events, outings and activities which may take place throughout the school year 

  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Maintain appropriate professional appearance.

  • Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Willingly perform other related duties as requested or assigned by the Administrator

Qualifications-

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (preferred) or in a related area that will satisfy the requirements of the Arkansas Department of Education or ACSI.

  • 2+ years of classroom experience (preferred)

  • Knowledge of best practices and expected grade level development

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow teachers and staff

  • Committed Christ-follower
