Job DescriptionThe RoleThe Additive Industrialization Center (AIC) is responsible for advancing additive manufacturing technologies and scaling their application across General Motors. As a Manufacturing Process Engineer – Additive Manufacturing, you will own the performance, continuous improvement, and industrialization of polymer and metal additive manufacturing processes and equipment.This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on optimizing equipment performance, improving process capability, reducing waste, and enabling future manufacturing technologies. You will work closely with product engineering, design, quality, operations, suppliers, and technology partners to support current production needs while helping shape GM's additive manufacturing strategy.This Role Is Ideal ForEngineers with experience in additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, process engineering, or materials engineering who enjoy working directly with equipment, solving complex production challenges, and helping bring emerging manufacturing technologies into production environments. You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy balancing hands-on manufacturing execution with long-term technology development and process improvement.What You'll DoSupport daily operation of polymer and metal additive manufacturing equipment, including build preparation, equipment troubleshooting, and issue resolution.Improve equipment performance through analysis of key manufacturing metrics including OEE, yield, scrap, cycle time, and throughput.Lead structured problem-solving, kaizen, and continuous improvement activities with internal teams and equipment suppliers.Design and execute experiments (DOE) and capability studies (Cp/Cpk) to improve dimensional accuracy, process stability, and mechanical performance.Develop and maintain Bills of Process (BOP), Bills of Equipment (BOE), manufacturing standards, and process documentation.Lead procurement, installation, commissioning, and startup activities for new additive manufacturing technologies and equipment.Deliver technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions related to additive manufacturing processes and equipment.Partner with engineering, operations, quality, design, and IT teams to align manufacturing strategies, business cases, and technology roadmaps.Evaluate emerging additive manufacturing technologies and develop strategic partnerships that expand GM's manufacturing capabilities.Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Background in manufacturing, process engineering, advanced manufacturing, or production operations.Demonstrated application of structured problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.Ability to analyze manufacturing performance using process, quality, equipment, and operational metrics.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with a high degree of ownership and accountability.Success working across cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to solve technical problems and implement solutions.Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.Ability to work effectively in environments involving emerging technologies and evolving requirements.Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering disciplineWhat Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)2+ years supporting additive manufacturing or advanced manufacturing environments.Hands-on operation of industrial additive manufacturing equipment, including FFF, MJF, SLS, PBF, DED, or similar technologies.Proficiency in build preparation, slicing software, process parameter development, or equipment optimization.Application of additive manufacturing technologies within automotive product development or manufacturing operations.Background in materials science, metallurgy, polymers, or process characterization.Support of manufacturing equipment installation, commissioning, validation, or launch activities.Development of Bills of Process (BOP), Bills of Equipment (BOE), manufacturing standards, or production documentation.Familiarity with Red X, Practical Problem Solving, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or equivalent structured problem-solving frameworks.Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
