The Police Dispatcher serves as the primary point of contact for the Police Department. Dispatchers answer the Department's primary phone line for emergency calls and deal directly with the public at the front office. The job requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure and multitask in an often fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records and facilitate effective communication for law enforcement and emergency services.

Police Dispatcher Duties:

• Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls for service via phone, radio, or other communication systems.
• Dispatch police officers and coordinate with other emergency services (e.g., fire, EMS) as needed.
• Maintain accurate logs of all communications, incidents, and officer activities.
• Provide clear, concise, and timely communication to officers in the field, relaying critical information.
• Monitor and track officer locations and statuses to ensure safety and effective response.
• Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, radios, and other communication equipment.
• Assist with incident reporting and provide information to law enforcement personnel as required.
• Stay calm under pressure, handling high-stress situations with professionalism and efficiency.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED; associate's degree or relevant certification preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in administrative, clerical, or dispatching roles (court or law enforcement experience preferred).
• Strong knowledge of tribal court procedures, legal terminology, and/or public safety protocols (or willingness to learn).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with court management or dispatch software.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and reporting.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Familiarity with tribal culture, laws, and community dynamics is highly desirable.
• Must pass a background check and drug screening.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Preferred Skills:

• Certification in court administration or public safety dispatching (e.g., APCO, NCIC).
• Experience with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems or electronic court filing systems.
• Knowledge of tribal sovereignty and jurisdictional issues.
• Bilingual skills (if applicable to the tribal community).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods while performing clerical and dispatching duties.
• Clear speech and hearing for effective communication via phone and radio.
• Ability to operate computers, radios, and office equipment.
