Job Description

The Production Supervisor oversees daily manufacturing operations, ensuring production teams follow established work instructions, meet scheduled output targets, and maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This role interprets job specifications, assigns tasks, and provides hands-on leadership to drive continuous improvement across the shop and department.

Responsibilities

• Ensure production teams perform all work in strict conformance with established Work Instructions and company standards.
• Interpret specifications and job orders, clearly communicate requirements to employees, and assign duties according to skills and production needs.
• Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and respond to changing priorities or issues on the shop floor.
• Coordinate and complete accurate and thorough production reports for the entire shift, documenting output, issues, and key metrics.
• Communicate and interpret company policies to workers and consistently enforce safety regulations and best practices.
• Identify and suggest changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency and productivity within the shop or department.
• Analyze and resolve work-related problems, or actively assist employees in solving issues that affect production or quality.
• Initiate and support plans to motivate employees, foster engagement, and help teams achieve their work goals.
• Address employee concerns and problems, escalating unresolved issues to Operations leadership when necessary.
• Initiate contact with emergency maintenance, engineering, quality, or other support functions when critical problems arise.
• Complete and submit necessary work orders for maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
• Review, approve, and manage time cards and overtime for assigned staff in accordance with company guidelines.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives across production processes, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Support and oversee assembly and manufacturing operations to ensure consistent output and adherence to process standards.
• Monitor manufacturing processes within an industrial and automotive-related environment to maintain operational excellence.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience supervising or managing workers in a manufacturing environment, preferably with a couple of years of leadership responsibility.
• Strong production supervision skills, including the ability to lead teams and coordinate daily manufacturing operations.
• Hands-on experience with production management and manufacturing processes in an industrial or automotive-related setting.
• Ability to interpret specifications, job orders, and work instructions and translate them into clear tasks for employees.
• Demonstrated supervisory skills, including task assignment, performance oversight, and timecard and overtime approval.
• Solid understanding of safety practices and regulations within a manufacturing and production environment.
• Experience with continuous improvement and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.
• Strong management skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to prepare and review job preparation requirements and production reports accurately and thoroughly.
• Knowledge of manufacturing operations and assembly processes, with a focus on quality and timely delivery.
• Effective communication skills to interpret company policies, enforce standards, and motivate employees.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in lean manufacturing principles and practices.
• Experience in the automotive industry or similar industrial manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with industrial production equipment and maintenance work order processes.
• Ability to suggest and implement changes in working conditions and equipment usage to improve efficiency.
• Comfort working cross-functionally with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams.
• Strong organizational skills for coordinating shift activities and maintaining accurate production documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and production environment, typically on the shop floor where industrial equipment, assembly processes, and structured work instructions guide daily operations. The setting emphasizes safety, adherence to procedures, and collaboration with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams. Work is focused on meeting production schedules and maintaining efficient, reliable manufacturing processes.

This is a Contract position based out of Blacksburg, VA.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Blacksburg,VA.
