Job Title: Welder Job Description
This role focuses on MIG and TIG welding of steel and aluminum components in a dynamic, small-scale manufacturing environment. You set up and operate welding equipment, interpret blueprints, and contribute to the efficient completion of custom job orders while maintaining high quality standards and a safe, clean workspace.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate metal inert gas (MIG) and tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding machines to weld steel and aluminum components.
- Read and interpret blueprints to plan and execute welding tasks accurately.
- Use standard hand tools, including files, squares, and tape measures, to prepare and finish workpieces.
- Safely operate overhead cranes and fork trucks for material handling and manipulation of product components, especially for loads over 30 pounds.
- Coordinate with administrative personnel to ensure job orders are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Wear appropriate safety and protective equipment at all times and follow all safety procedures.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work area throughout the shift.
- Report labor hours associated with each job using an electronic scanner or similar system.
- Identify materials or components that do not conform to company standards and remove or discard them as required.
- Assist other team members as needed to meet production and quality goals.
- Participate in inventory cycle counting to help maintain accurate stock levels.
- Adapt to changing work assignments and priorities in a small, growing operation.
- Communicate clearly with team members to support 100% customer satisfaction.
- 3–5 years of experience performing MIG welding in a production or similar environment.
- Proficiency in MIG welding and familiarity with TIG welding processes.
- Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience welding tubing, beams, and other structural components, ideally including high beams.
- Hands-on experience working with steel; experience with additional metals is a plus.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards.
- Adaptability to a constantly changing work environment and evolving priorities.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team to support customer satisfaction.
- Comfort using standard hand tools such as files, squares, and tape measures.
- Ability to safely use overhead cranes and fork trucks for material handling.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods, with periodic kneeling and back bending, and to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Electrical wiring skills are a plus and can enhance versatility in the role.
- Ability to visualize the finished product prior to completion and plan work accordingly.
- American Welding Society (AWS) certification is a plus but not required for employment.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing certification and training to AWS Standard D1.1 provided by the employer.
You join a small, growing operation where your contributions are highly visible and valued. The environment encourages flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to help wherever needed, providing opportunities to broaden your skills and take on varied tasks. Ongoing training and certification support continuous professional development, while a stable shift structure supports work-life balance.
Work EnvironmentThis is a small operation that is ramping up, offering a collaborative atmosphere where team members support one another and pitch in across different tasks. The primary schedule options include a first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some flexibility around the 7:00 a.m. start time, and a second shift from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday (with two 10-minute breaks and no lunch on Friday). Work is performed under some temperature variation due to seasonal changes. The role requires standing for extended periods, periodic kneeling and back bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds, with overhead cranes and fork trucks used for any material exceeding that weight. Appropriate safety and protective equipment is worn in the production area, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace is an integral part of the work culture.
