Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Name: Labor & Delivery/Postpartum Unit

Brief Unit Description: This is a 25-bed Labor & Delivery unit that includes L&D, Postpartum, Newborn Care, 2 Operating Rooms, 2 Recovery Rooms, and 2 Antepartum Units. The unit serves an average daily census of 15-25 mothers, babies, and laboring patients.

Position Overview

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients during labor and delivery, as well as to postpartum patients and newborns. The position requires a commitment to delivering exceptional care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing assessments, interventions, and documentation in compliance with established protocols.
Monitor and care for laboring patients, including managing epidurals, magnesium infusions, and more.
Ensure patient safety and comfort during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and revise individualized care plans.
Deliver high-quality newborn care immediately post-delivery.
Participate in educational initiatives for patients and their families regarding newborn care and postpartum adjustments.

Qualifications

A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Labor & Delivery and Postpartum nursing.
Current RN license in Massachusetts.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience, preferably with EPIC.

Patient Care Ratio

Labor & Delivery: 1:2-3 evaluations, 1:1 during active labor, magnesium infusion, or epidural placement.
Postpartum: 1:3-4 patient ratio.

Additional Information

This position requires a commitment to working 36 or 48 hours per week, primarily on night shifts and every other weekend. The role may involve flexibility in scheduling to meet unit needs. There is no floating required to other units.
