Chip Seal Laborer assists in preparing streets for chip seal, slurry seals on roads and streets. The Laborer assists with the repair and maintenance of the City streets and right of ways by performing various manual labor duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

evenly distribute a thin base of asphalt onto an existing pavement Embed finely graded aggregate into pavement. traffic control, chip crew labor, slurry seal crew labor and crack fill crew labor. Control traffic through work zone safely Hold Flagger Certification Credentials Walk at fast pace constantly throughout the day on hard surfaces Communicate continuously with other employees to assure safety of public in work zone areas. Responsible for cleanliness of construction equipment and supplies Responsible for loading and unloading of traffic control and other construction equipment. Complete timecards in a timely manner assuring completeness and accuracy of same Qualified individuals will drive class A or B vehicles between the construction site and the stockpile keeping the equipment loaded with material. Responsible for maintaining professional relationships with public and establishing ongoing good public relations. Attendance is an essential function of this position. Cover all utility covers and storm drains with plastic, tar paper and tape Operation of heavy equipment Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have good communications skills both written and verbal to interact with internal and external drivers and customers. Have a current driver’s license in good standing (Class A preferred). Must possess the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects utilizing organizational skills and communications skills. Strong sense of responsibility regarding timely and accurate completion of work, and a strong commitment to company goals. Must be capable of functioning under fast paced stressful working conditions within live traffic.
