PhlebotomistSchedule: This position is every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 5:00AM - 5:30PM or 4:30AM - 5:00PMJob Summary: Responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients for medical testing, ensuring accuracy and patient safety. This role involves working directly with patients, preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, maintaining records, and adhering to all regulatory and safety standards.Job Relationships: Responsible to the Laboratory Director. Positions Directly Supervised: None. We are committed to delivering compassionate, capable, and personalized treatment to our patients and their families, always keeping in mind that our responsibility is to the health needs of the people.Essential Job Functions:Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients of all agesCollect other types of specimens as required (e.g. urine, stool, swabs)Collects specimens and blood samples from contracted Nursing Home facilities, as required.Label and prepare specimens for transport and analysisVerify patient identity accurately and ensure proper documentation and test requisitionsFollow established procedures for patient care and specimen collectionDocument collection times and dates, test requisitions, specimen details, and initial to maintain an accurate daily count of collections performedVerify test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log; bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnelResolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment and workspaceProvide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare team membersAdhere to infection control protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelinesMonitor inventory of phlebotomy supplies and request restocking when neededEnsure proper stocking of supplies for phlebotomy trays and phlebotomy areaAssist with training of new phlebotomy staff or students, if requiredAll other duties as assignedQualifications: Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program is preferred. Certification (e.g. NHA, ASCP, CPT) preferred. Work Experience: One (1) year of experience is preferred.
