Veterinary Technician – Internal Medicine (Full‑Time) Premier Veterinary Group in Chicago, IL is hiring a full‑time Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Internal Medicine team. Compensation and Benefits Compensation is based on experience and skill level: CVT $25‑32/hr, VTS $35‑45/hr. Qualifications Certified Veterinary Technician or experienced nurse with a minimum of 3 years in emergency or specialty setting with advanced anesthesia experience (ASA 3‑5) New graduates or current CVT students are welcome to apply Excellent communication skills Proper animal restraint Peripheral catheter placement and proper securing Venipuncture Knowledge of various routes of drug administration Calculation and administration of fluids and medications Aseptic surgical area preparation Monitoring and recording vital signs (TPR, SpO2, CO2, BP) Basic in‑house laboratory testing (CBC/Chem, Lytes, iStat, UA) Maintain proper medical records Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds Stand on feet for long periods of time Fluent English speaking and reading skills required; fluency in multiple languages is a plus Common Procedures Ultrasound, ultrasound guided FNA/Biopsies ECG/EKG Abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Rhinoscopy, Cytoscopy CT Imaging, contrast studies Bone marrow aspirates/biopsies CSF taps ACTH Stimulation test Glucose Curves Joint taps Arterial blood draws BAL/TTW Chemotherapy administration Role Responsibilities An Internal Medicine Technician is responsible for anticipating and meeting the needs of the Internist. The technician sets up and assists with a variety of procedures (see “Common Procedures” list), performs sophisticated testing and equipment to aid diagnosis, obtains, stores, and processes laboratory samples, monitors high‑risk anesthetic patients, and acts as a primary contact to clients beginning with initial triage/exam. The technician prepares and presents estimates for procedures, updates owners regarding patient status, presents discharge information, assists with medical record keeping, prepares invoices, manages laboratory results, and aids in patient scheduling. The technician may also serve as a liaison between the doctor and client, assisting with follow‑up, communication, and managing long‑term care for chronic and complex diseases.
