Associate Therapist

Associate Therapist, Mental Health Services

The Associate Therapist will offer individual, couples, family, or group therapy on-site. Services may include evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness and other psychological issues. The position requires direct contact with clients, detailed and timely medical charting, and accurate diagnosis.

The Associate Therapist will:

• Conduct psychological evaluations.
• Provide individual, family, and group therapy and education in both outpatient and residential settings.
• Provide psychological assessments, assigns treatment, and makes appropriate referrals.
• Manage an assigned caseload, following the treatment and progress of each client.
• Collect UA samples from clients of their own gender.
• Ensure all license and certification requirements are current.
• Report directly to the Clinical Director.

The Associate Therapist will also:

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation on all client files.
• Provide and respond to correspondence relevant to clients.
• Perform special assignments as assigned by the Regional Vice President and Clinical Director.

The Associate Therapist will:

• Participate in weekly case consultation with the clinical team.
• Participate in weekly staff meeting involving business, case presentation and consultation, training, and in-service.
• Provide support in the orientation and training of therapy interns.
• Conduct treatment evaluations and develop treatment plans, updating them as needed.
• Maintain and enforce all program policies.
• Treat clients and prospective clients with professionalism and courtesy always.
• Work effectively with front office staff, communicating schedule changes and other vital information.
• Respond to crisis and informational calls from the community at assigned times or as needed.

The Associate Therapist will:

• Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
• Follow through on activities and responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Manage time effectively.
• Demonstrate ability to function with multiple projects and multiple deadlines while responding to crisis situations.
• Other Duties as assigned by agency leadership.

Skills and position requirements include:

• Able to read, write, and speak English fluently (Bilingual is preferred).
• Valid licensure or certification as a Registered Associate Therapist (AMFT, ASW, Psy.D.)
• MA Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work and MFT or Clinical Psychologist credential – licensed in the State of California.
• Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience in Substance Abuse Recovery.
• Master's Degree in mental health is required.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with clients and staff alike.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
• Strong organizational and planning skills to complete tasks in a high-quality, accurate, and timely manner.
• Possess good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to maintain productive work relationships with clients, employees, management, external agencies, and public.
• Positively represents the program/organization in the community.
• Establishes and maintains good boundaries with clients and staff as outlined in DAAC's Code of Conduct.
• Ability to use effective judgment in therapeutic and crisis situations.
• Continually adding to knowledge in addiction, counseling, therapy, and team-building.
• Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts effectively.
• Ability to maintain your own psychological well-being.
• Ability to recognize and manage personal bias.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices in substance abuse treatment.
• Familiarity with relevant regulations and accreditation standards.
• Consistently demonstrates initiative, conscientiousness, reliability, and adherence to ethical codes.
• Classify and code conditions, treatments, and diagnoses.
• Utilize specialized technology, such as recordkeeping software specific to the hospital or medical office.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, MS Office tools, and common technology tools and equipment.
• Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
• Must meet all DMV and agency insurance clearances.
• Maintains current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Strong knowledge and protocol of HIPPA and client privacy.

Physical requirements include:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
• The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Occasionally, moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Ability to maintain a clear, understandable speaking voice, capable of communicating vital business information to internal and external contacts.
• Accurate and clear vision and hearing.
• Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time. Job duties of this position are performed from a seated position.
• Maintain sufficient digital manipulation skills necessary to utilize a computer keyboard.
• Sufficient body dexterity to bend, stoop, and reach for or otherwise gather documents, files, and other related office materials.
• Ability to effectively communicate with management and co-workers by telephone and/or in person.
• Ability to function effectively within a busy working environment.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines while responding to crisis situations.
• Availability for working evenings and/or weekends.
