This role performs nuclear medicine procedures and related techniques to produce images for interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. The technologist exercises professional judgment in the performance of services while adhering to medical ethics, ensuring appropriate patient care, and recognizing patient conditions essential for successful procedures.Essential Job Functions:\n \n Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures.\n Corroborates patient clinical history with the procedure, ensuring documentation is available for licensed practitioners.\n Prepares patients for procedures; provides instructions aimed at obtaining desired results and minimizing patient anxiety.\n Selects and operates radiation detection, imaging, and associated equipment to successfully perform procedures.\n Positions patients and equipment to optimally demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient comfort and ability.\n Immobilizes patients as necessary for proper examination.\n Prepares, calculates, identifies, and administers radiopharmaceuticals and/or medications as prescribed by licensed practitioners.\n Evaluates produced images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.\n Verifies informed consent for interventional procedures and assists licensed practitioners accordingly.\n Practices aseptic techniques as required.\n Assumes responsibility for both the physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures.\n Initiates basic life support actions when necessary.\n Maintains knowledge of and observes Universal precautions.\n Performs venipuncture as needed.\n Assists in maintaining records while respecting patient confidentiality and established policies.\n Assumes responsibility for the assigned area and reports equipment malfunctions.\n Provides input for equipment purchase and supply decisions.\n Offers practical instruction for students and other health care professionals.\n Participates in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan, including specific quality control duties.\n May control inventory and the purchase of supplies for the assigned area.\n Understands and applies patient relations skills effectively.\n Pursues continuing education to maintain relevant licenses or certifications.\n Accomplishes other duties as assigned.\n Supports the mission, vision, values, and policies of the organization.\n Participates in required education programs as applicable.\n Floating to other departments is required when qualified to perform patient care.\n Qualifications:\n \n Education:\n \n Required: Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nuclear medicine program.\n \n Licenses/Certifications:\n \n Required: OBMI and ARRT registered nuclear medicine technologist; Current BLS certification.\n Preferred: CRASE training if the assignment exceeds a six-month period.\n \n Experience:\n \n Required: None.\n Preferred: Minimum of two years of experience.\n \n Physical Requirements:\n This position requires the following physical and sensory functions, as per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):\n \n Auditory ability to detect and respond to sounds, including alarms and verbal communication.\n Effective communication skills for interaction with patients, family members, and healthcare teams.\n Visual acuity for observing patient conditions and reading documentation.\n Tactile perception for assessing physical characteristics during patient care.\n Motor coordination for handling medical equipment and performing fine motor tasks.\n Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and assist in repositioning patients weighing over 100 pounds.\n Ability to sit, walk, and stand continuously throughout the shift.\n Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching to assist patients or access equipment.\n Working Conditions:\n This position is primarily performed in an indoor healthcare environment.
