Certified Medical Assistant

Position Overview Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. Manages check‑in, interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on charts. May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Prepares treatment rooms for examination. Hourly rate: $23.00 – $30.00. This position offers monthly incentive pay based on performance metrics. Job Requirements Education: High School Diploma required. Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred. Work Experience: Medical Assistant experience preferred. Front Desk experience preferred. Licenses & Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire; obtained through American Red Cross or American Heart Association. One of the following certifications required (or obtain within 15 months): CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA) CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA) RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT) NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) NRCMA – Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (National Association for Health Professionals) In lieu of an approved MA certification, accept: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, LPN, or RN; EMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians); CNA. In California, MA’s must: Graduate of MA school and be certified OR receive additional internal training under Physician, NP, PA, etc. Essential Functions Conduct patient registration, securing required paperwork and insurance, and verifying insurance eligibility. Process co‑pays and schedule patient appointments for the assigned center. Coordinate provider referrals to assigned specialists. Answer patient questions and keep them informed of their status. Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination, conducting interviews, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit. Perform preliminary physical tests for vital signs and escalates critical cases to provider. Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to provider. Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have needed supplies. Complete order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels and regularly check expiration dates. Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files. Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence. Ensure reception is well maintained. Conduct courtesy call‑backs for patient follow‑up. Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end‑of‑day communication, and securing the building. Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain QA/QC logs for equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets. All other duties as assigned. Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic Medical Assistant duties. Quick typing and basic computer knowledge. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Detail‑oriented, able to rely on experience and judgment to perform tasks, participate on a team, and accomplish goals. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect, and sensitivity to cultural or social differences.
