Job Title Assistant/Associate Professor in Sport Management and Recreational Leadership (State University Faculty) Institution St. Cloud State University Job Overview Tenure‑Track, Probationary Line, Assistant/Associate Professor position in Sport Management & Recreation Leadership within the Department of Kinesiology, Community Health, and Gerontology. The role involves teaching, mentorship, curriculum support, and program initiatives across undergraduate and graduate sport and recreation courses, as well as athletic coaching. Responsibilities Teach courses in the Sport and Recreation Management B.S. program, Sport Management M.S. program, and Athletic Coaching minor. Provide instructional duties in other academic areas as assigned. Support applied learning experiences (practicums, internships, job shadows). Supervise experiential learning and coordinate partnerships with campus and community agencies. Advise undergraduate and/or graduate students and serve on graduate student culminating project committees. Collaborate with colleagues to advance program initiatives, assessment, and accreditation needs. Engage in scholarly or professional activities—research, applied practice, grants, presentations, publications, or discipline‑specific innovation. Contribute to departmental, college, university, and community service and engagement activities. Eligibility & Work Authorization Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States on or before the effective date of appointment. Eligible individuals must be U.S. citizens, nationals, lawful permanent residents, or foreign nationals authorized to work without employer sponsorship. Employees must maintain work authorization without sponsorship for the duration of their appointment. Minimum Qualifications Doctorate (PhD, EdD) or ABD candidate (degree attainment by August 2026), or related terminal degree in Sport Management or Sport Administration and/or Recreation, Coaching (Sport) Leadership, or closely related discipline. Demonstrated ability to teach in multiple instructional formats (face‑to‑face, hybrid, and/or online). Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Commitment to student learning, engagement, and success. Ability to teach a range of undergraduate courses within Sport Management and Recreation leadership BS, the graduate Sport Management MS program, and/or other department required areas as assigned by the College Dean. College or high school sport administration experience and/or recreation leadership. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in learning and work environments. Preferred Qualifications Professional experience in collegiate athletics and/or service as a high school athletic director. Higher education academic teaching experience in sport management, recreational leadership, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, sport nutrition, coaching, and/or sport or event operations. Understanding of developing or coordinating internships, practicums, or professional partnerships. Understanding of advising undergraduate students and supporting professional portfolio development. Experience working with community, school, collegiate, or industry partners to support experiential learning. Understanding of supervising student field experiences, coaching, sport, recreation, or other applied learning settings. Certifications or ability to obtain certificates in relevant areas (e.g., CSCS, NSCA‑CPT, USA Coaching credentials, ACSM, Event/Facility Management certifications). Evidence of professional development, scholarly interests, or applied research in sport, recreation, or exercise science fields. Salary Annual range: $64,963 to $188,620, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
