Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Operating Room

Location: Portland, OR 97213
Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Day Shift – 3x12 Hours, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Employment Type: Travel Contract

Weekly Pay: $2,000 – $2,110

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join an Operating Room team in a short-term acute care hospital setting. The Surgical Technologist will support surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team, and ensuring compliance with patient safety and infection control standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the operating room, surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
• Serve as a scrub member of the surgical team and provide appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment throughout procedures.
• Maintain a sterile field and follow established aseptic technique and infection control standards.
• Perform accurate counts of instruments, sponges, sharps, and other surgical supplies.
• Support surgical procedures across multiple specialties, including:
  • General Surgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Vascular
  • Neurology/Spine
  • Urology
  • Gynecology (GYN)
  • ENT
  • Robotic Surgery
• Prepare for and assist with laparoscopic, robotic, and other specialized surgical procedures.
• Handle, identify, and label surgical specimens according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Follow Universal Protocol and surgical Time-Out procedures to promote patient safety.
• Clean, decontaminate, sterilize, and properly store surgical instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with hospital and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other members of the surgical team.
• Support both scheduled and emergency surgical cases while maintaining efficiency and attention to detail.
• Participate in required on-call coverage, including 16 hours of weekday call and 24 hours of weekend call every 4 weeks .

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Surgical Technologist/Operating Room experience .
• Previous travel assignment experience required.
• Experience in a short-term acute care hospital setting.
• Current NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Surgical instruments and equipment
  • Sterile/aseptic technique
  • Operating room preparation
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Surgical procedures and workflows
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team.
• Strong communication, teamwork, attention to detail, and critical-thinking skills.
• Must be willing to work weekends and participate in required on-call rotations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with Epic preferred.
• Experience with laparoscopic, robotic, and other specialized surgical procedures preferred.
• Multi-specialty OR experience preferred.
