Urgent Care Veterinarian – Help Us Build Something New in Alaska Palmer Veterinary Clinic | Palmer, Alaska $170,000–$200,000 Base Salary + Production Bonus | 3-Day Workweek | No Overnights | No On-Call Where Modern Medicine Meets Compassionate Care Palmer Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced Urgent Care Veterinarian to help us expand the services we provide to our patients and the greater Palmer/Mat-Su community. We are an established, veterinarian-owned small-animal practice, and we are looking to develop and launch an urgent care service within our existing hospital. This is an opportunity for an experienced veterinarian not simply to fill an existing position, but to help us build and shape a new service. The position will consist of three 12-hour shifts per week, either Friday–Sunday or Saturday–Monday. Exact shift hours are still being determined, but there will be no overnight shifts and no on‑call responsibilities. Urgent care patients will be seen on a walk‑in basis, with the goal of expanding access to same‑day veterinary care for our clients and community. Why Consider Palmer Veterinary Clinic? $170,000–$200,000 guaranteed base salary DOE 20% year‑end production bonus on production above an agreed‑upon annual goal 3-day workweek Three 12‑hour shifts Friday–Sunday or Saturday–Monday schedule No overnight shifts No on‑call Opportunity to help develop and shape a new urgent care service Established hospital with experienced veterinary and technical support Well‑equipped facility with extensive in‑house diagnostic and treatment capabilities 3–4 weeks PTO Health insurance stipend Annual CE stipend Veterinary licenses and professional dues paid Relocation/signing bonus 401(k) with 3% employer match after six months Help Us Expand Access to Veterinary Care Palmer Veterinary Clinic does not currently operate a dedicated urgent care service. We are creating this position because we see an opportunity to expand the care available through our hospital and better meet the needs of pets and their owners in our community. We are looking for an experienced veterinarian who is excited by the opportunity to help us develop that service. How We Practice Our motto, “Where Modern Medicine Meets Compassionate Care,” reflects our approach to both medicine and client relationships. We practice progressive, high‑quality veterinary medicine and believe medicine should continue to evolve. Our doctors are encouraged to discuss new protocols, diagnostics, treatments, and approaches to patient care. We value collaboration and are willing to change how we do something when there is a better way. That philosophy will carry directly into the development of our urgent care service. We also believe excellent medicine starts with listening. Clients seeking urgent care are often worried, stressed, and faced with unexpected decisions. We want them to feel heard and understand what is happening with their pet. Our doctors provide clear and transparent communication regarding diagnostic recommendations, treatment options, prognosis, and cost. Whenever medically appropriate, we provide options ranging from an ideal diagnostic and treatment plan to reasonable alternatives that may better fit an individual client’s circumstances. Our goal is to identify what the patient needs, communicate those needs clearly, and work with the owner to develop an appropriate and realistic plan for their pet. Experienced Veterinarian & Technical Support Our established practice currently includes three full‑time veterinarians, including the practice owner, three licensed veterinary technicians, three additional veterinary technicians, and additional support staff. We believe urgent care works best when veterinarians have capable technical support. We want our doctors focused on examining patients, making medical decisions, performing procedures, communicating with clients, and directing patient care rather than trying to do everything themselves. Candidates should have a minimum of 3–5 years of small‑animal clinical experience and be comfortable independently evaluating and managing urgent cases. Our ideal veterinarian: Has strong clinical judgment and triage skills Is comfortable independently managing urgent and same‑day cases Can prioritize effectively as caseload and patient needs change Remains calm and organized in a fast‑moving clinical environment Communicates clearly and compassionately with worried or stressed clients Is comfortable discussing diagnostic and treatment options and costs transparently Practices thoughtful, progressive medicine Values proactive pain management Works collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff Is interested in helping develop protocols and workflows for a new service Is open to new ideas and willing to contribute their own Treats clients, patients, and coworkers with respect Surgical experience is preferred and would be particularly valuable as we develop the range of cases our urgent care service can manage. Compensation & Benefits This position offers a guaranteed base salary of $170,000–$200,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a 20% year‑end production bonus. The production bonus rewards production above an agreed‑upon annual production goal. Once that goal is met, the veterinarian receives 20% of production above the established goal. Our benefits package includes: 3–4 weeks paid time off Health insurance stipend Annual continuing education stipend Veterinary licenses and professional dues paid Relocation/signing bonus 401(k) with 3% employer match after six months Scrubs and jackets provided No overnight shifts No on-Call Three Days On. Four Days to Enjoy Alaska. This position is designed around a three‑day workweek. You’ll work three 12‑hour shifts—either Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday—leaving four days each week away from the hospital. Palmer is located in Alaska’s beautiful Matanuska‑Susitna Valley, with exceptional access to hiking, fishing, skiing, hunting, camping, biking, boating, and countless opportunities to explore Alaska while remaining within convenient reach of Anchorage. For candidates considering relocating from the Lower 48, we understand that moving to Alaska is a significant decision. We offer a relocation/signing bonus and are happy to talk candidly about what it’s like to live and practice here. For the right veterinarian, this is an opportunity to do more than take another urgent care position. It’s an opportunity to help build one. Bring your experience, your ideas, and your vision for what excellent urgent care can look like. We’ll provide the established practice, team, technology, and resources to help make it happen.
