IT Parts Inventory & Logistics Engineer

 

We are looking for an experienced inventory and logistics professional to take ownership of the computer parts inventory supporting our field service organization.

 

This is not an entry-level position, and it is not a traditional corporate management role. We need someone who is comfortable being directly involved in the day-to-day work and who understands that inventory and logistics require hands-on participation.

 

The right person will have experience managing computer, server, storage, networking, or other technical parts and understand the challenges of supporting field engineers and service contracts.

 

Responsibilities will include:

• Managing computer parts and service inventory
• Maintaining accurate inventory levels and locations
• Coordinating parts requirements with field engineers
• Working closely with purchasing
• Planning and stocking spare parts for new service contracts
• Managing emergency and critical spare parts
• Monitoring inventory usage and replenishment requirements
• Coordinating inventory located at multiple or remote locations
• Performing and organizing physical inventory counts
• Identifying excess, obsolete, missing, or poorly controlled inventory
• Helping improve inventory procedures and controls
• Making sure the right parts are available when our engineers need them
• Maintaining inventory records, reports, and tracking spreadsheets
• Using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications on a regular basis
• Working comfortably with computer systems, inventory software, email, online research, and electronic documentation

 

This is a hands-on position. The person needs to be equally comfortable working at a desk, working with spreadsheets and computer systems, and physically working with parts and inventory.

 

Strong Microsoft Excel skills are important. The position will involve organizing and analyzing inventory information, working with part numbers, quantities, locations, usage history, purchasing information, and service requirements.

 

The person will be part of a team and will work closely with purchasing, operations, field engineers, warehouse personnel, and management. They will have significant responsibility for inventory and logistics, but success in the position will depend on communication, cooperation, follow-through, and the ability to work effectively with others.

 

We are not looking for someone who simply manages from a desk or directs other people to do the work. We need someone who is willing to get involved, identify problems, develop practical solutions, and help make sure those solutions are followed and sustained.

 

Experience with enterprise computer hardware, service parts, depot operations, field service logistics, or IT hardware maintenance would be particularly valuable.

 

Most importantly, we need someone who can come into an existing operation, understand where improvements are needed, establish practical inventory controls, and work with the team to keep the parts and logistics operation organized and effective.
