Job Details Location: Essexville, MI 48732 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: 2 Year Degree Job Category: Nurse Responsibilities Determines resident status, receiving information/activity in progress from prior shift. Initiate shift ending processes and coordinate activity with personnel of shift following. Oversee supportive task completion of L.P.N.s and C.N.A.s adjusting processes and sequence in recognition critical vs. care as needed status. Set up and pass medications safely, assign tasks to authorized personnel, chart and continually verify accuracy of the medication process. Continually evaluate resident status and maintain progress notes, summarize on a periodic basis, initiate corrective action in emergency cases, seek clarification/adjustment of treatment practice as needed. Instruct supportive staff in task completion, provide on‑the‑job training, monitor task performance, may retrain or recommend disciplinary action as warranted. Regularly participate in resident care conferences, receive new admission information, participate in evaluation and establish future goals of resident care, assess the resident’s condition and nursing needs, prescribe appropriate nursing activity, communicate to physicians and update plan of care, participate in updating information for minimum data sets. Perform difficult nursing tasks, direct care, use intravenous equipment, catheters, irrigation equipment, dressings, braces, suturing supplies, suction machines, syringes, oxygen, and equipment to establish vital signs. Teach and prepare family members and residents regarding continuing care, counsel the bereaved, maintain favorable relationships between the Facility and family, act as a resident advocate protecting resident rights, involve resident and family in planning for care, treatment, teaching, and discharge plans. Assure proper service level of the unit, ensure call lights answered promptly, equipment stored, spills cleaned up, equipment in proper working order, arrange corrective action as needed, ensure safety practices followed. Coordinate service activity of unit with other units of the Facility, therapy (diversional and physical), maintenance, domestic service and administration. Encourage residents in self‑assistance and participation in social activity, therapy programs to alleviate tension and improve general well‑being. Attend special interest/discipline meetings, exchanging information. Process special service needs, x‑ray and related results, specialized medical care, funeral director contacts, discharge summary completion. Maximize comfort and well‑being of residents on a continuing basis. Function as a leader for the C.N.A.s and L.P.N.s, delegate to contribute to excellence of the nursing unit to which R.N. is assigned. Participate in orientation of new personnel and performance evaluations of Nursing staff. Follow proper infection control procedures and supervise supportive staff in infection control procedures. Demonstrate ability to remain calm in emergency and/or stressful situations, give everyone confidence that situation is under control. Consistently follow the policies and procedures of the Facility. Be knowledgeable of Resident Rights, ensure privacy and dignity, maintain a safe, secure environment for all residents. Complete annual Inservice training and education requirements as scheduled; maintain acceptable attendance and dress according to Dress Code Policy. Use facility supplies and equipment appropriately to minimize loss, waste, fraud. Maintain confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and Facility information. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Valid R.N. license in State of Michigan. Valid C.P.R. certification card. Maintain regulatory requirements. Position requires lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, twisting, stooping, and sitting on a regular basis. Report to work on time and as scheduled, return from breaks on time. Wear proper identification while on duty; use computerized punch time system correctly. Actively participate in the Department Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. Exhibit genuine interest in and appreciation of adults in later years of life. Be a motivated, independent individual who can organize workload so that all functions are completed appropriately. Have interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel and residents.
