Responsibilities The Certified Coding Specialist Sr analyzes relevant clinical and demographic information from the Health Information record, assigns appropriate ICD‑10 and CPT codes following guidelines and ensures compliance with CMS, state, and other regulatory agencies. Assign hospital DRG’s proficiently and analyze documentation for severity of illness and risk of mortality reporting. Provide mentorship and training to onboarding coders. Complete analysis of documentation, abstracting and code assignment by body system, organ, etiology and morphology according to coding guidelines. Perform queries and obtain documentation for coding in other departments. Coordinate documentation needs, query follow‑up and final DRG assignment with the Clinical Documentation Specialist. Review provider documentation for coding appropriateness; analyze medical records to complete accurate code selection. Assign diagnosis and procedure codes for clinic visits, surgical procedures/deliveries, and other billable professional services. Act as a mentor to team members for coding and documentation inquiries. Maintain focus on appropriate queries and documentation of HCC diagnoses. Qualifications Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding and application. Knowledge of computer applications including Windows, Excel, healthcare information systems and encoders. Certification: CCS: Certified Coding Specialist with two years of coding experience. CPC: Certified Professional Coder with two years of coding experience. CRC: Certified Risk Adjustment Coder with two years of HCC coding experience. RHIT: Registered Health Information Technologist Certification. RHIA: Registered Health Information Administrator Certification.
