Operating Engineer Master (Building Systems) LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking a highly skilled Operating Engineer Master (Building Systems). This is shift work monitoring the LSUHSC-NO building mechanical and energy management system, making rounds to visually inspect building systems and making repairs as assigned. Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular hours and during holidays. LSU Health New Orleans is an equal opportunity employer. Three years of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: For positions that involve refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification (Section 608, Clean Air Act, 1990) is required. Job Duties: operate, monitor and control system-wide output operate auxiliaries including firing up steam boilers, starting and stopping chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, refrigeration and HVAC equipment make hourly readings and enter on log sheets; perform chemical & softener tests; blow down boiler maintain, inspect, and repair mechanical equipment and components including compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies maintain, inspect and repair pumps, motors, control systems, piping, and other equipment used in mechanical systems check all equipment for proper fluid levels and operation before use stay alert for safety violations by other employees that may injure those employees, the employee, or other persons in the area take immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow accident to occur serve as lead-worker over subordinate Building Systems employees be responsible for special events work and campus maintenance emergencies Position-Specific Details: Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular working hours and during holidays. Possession of a 2nd class Stationary Engineer’s Certificate for steam boilers and for air conditioning. EPA certification. Valid driver’s license. Essential personnel position; must respond to campus emergencies after normal business hours and during campus closures; may be assigned to emergency team. Appointment Type: Probational Compensation: Starting rate $21.05 per hour, 1st quartile $25.26 per hour, plus $1 Longevity Pay, $2 Shift Differential, and $3 weekend Pay for hours worked only. Rate may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications.
