(Maximum of 24 hours per week during school term; up to 40 hours/week in summer and breaks.) Earliest employment start date is Fall 2025 and continues through the 2025-24 academic year. Materials Management (Campus Surplus and Recycling) is seeking student Materials Lead Associate (MLA's) to provide leadership and support the training of newly hired OSU student employees in collecting, transporting, and organizing a wide range of materials for reuse, recycling, and safe disposal. The use of university-owned vehicles will support the transport of a wide variety of materials across campus. Materials Management staff are expected to observe and actively listen to OSU community members with diverse backgrounds who have questions or comments about their experiences with OSU's materials services. • Starting pay rate is likely to be higher than the minimum if the selected applicants has demonstrated in their work as a Materials Associate the required experience.

Position Duties Materials Management Lead Support: 75%

• MLA's will, under the direction of the Recycling Manager, assist with student employee training, mentoring, and coaching for recycling and surplus student employee positions including:
• Provides on the job training and coaching of student employees.
• Assists with on-going training programs
• Identifies and evaluates problems by analyzing possible solutions before acting.
• Effectively navigates workplace relationships.
• Sets a positive tone for other employees and leads by example.
• Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior.
• Demonstrates openness and interacts respectfully in a diverse environment.
• Promotes positive customer relations; addresses customer needs in an efficient and courteous manner.
• Demonstrates a commitment to work safety by complying to safety standards, emergency procedures and reporting unsafe working conditions.
• Adheres to departmental policies and procedures.

Materials Training Assistant: 20% One goal of the MLA is to help prepare new Materials Associates with accurate information about performing their job duties and provide encouragement and support as new members of the Materials Management team. MLA's will be assigned new employees following their initial orientation for training on the job. The shifts assigned will be targeted on the most common work shifts for new MA's:

• Recycling Collection (Zone and Residence Halls)
• Surplus Pickups
• Bottle & Can Sorting

But can include training for any shift assignment. During the shift, MLA's will explain and demonstrate procedures, affirm workplace policies, answer questions, and observe and record student progress. Other duties as assigned by Materials Management staff: 5% Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here:

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

• International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

• Demonstrable knowledge of Recycling collection, sorting, and general operations.
• Demonstrable knowledge of Surplus collection and Public Sales.
• Good professional oral and written communications skills.

• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
• Experience in training, teaching, mentoring or coaching others in a technical skill or procedure.
• Knowledge or understanding of Surplus receiving, forklifting, and other more technical skills used during Surplus shifts.
• Knowledge or understanding of Cardboard truck usage or other more technical skills or procedures used during Recycling shifts.
