Position Summary

The Orthopedic Physician Assistant supports a high-volume orthopedic service by providing advanced clinical care, first assist support, and patient management across the continuum. This role works collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, nursing, rehabilitation, and ancillary teams to deliver efficient, evidence-based musculoskeletal care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive orthopedic assessments, histories, and physical exams.
• Order and interpret diagnostic imaging, labs, and other studies relevant to musculoskeletal conditions.
• Develop and implement treatment plans under the supervision of an orthopedic surgeon.
• Provide first assist support in the operating room, including fracture management, arthroscopy support, joint procedures, and soft-tissue repair.
• Perform orthopedic procedures such as joint injections, splinting, casting, wound care, and suture/staple removal.
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care, including education, follow-up, and discharge planning.
• Coordinate care with physical therapy, occupational therapy, pain management, and primary care providers.
• Document all patient encounters in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
• Participate in quality improvement, clinical protocols, and workflow optimization within the orthopedic service line.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current PA licensure in [state] ; NCCPA certification required.
• BLS and ACLS certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Orthopedic or surgical experience strongly preferred; new graduates with strong orthopedic rotations may be considered.
• Proficiency in interpreting imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI) and managing common orthopedic conditions.
• Strong procedural skills and comfort with fast-paced clinical environments.
