Provide immediate crisis intervention and initial emotional support and information on counseling available for long‑term assistance. Adhere to and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as the Colorado Victims Right Act (VRA) and Colorado Crime Victim Compensation Act. Ensure victims are aware of their rights under the VRA and the Colorado Victim Compensation Act. Inform victims of the status of their case through the initial phases of investigation up to the filing of the case with the District Attorney’s Office. Assist victims with the return of their property held in evidence. Review offense reports to identify victims who may benefit from the services described herein and contact those victims to offer service. Collaborate with community service providers to ensure safety and support of victims. Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with Department members, the Town’s Municipal Court, the District Attorney’s Office, and other law‑enforcement agencies. Develop and deliver community outreach, education, and training on victim rights, legislation, available resources, and related policies. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field supplemented by one (1) year of experience dealing with victims of crime or personal tragedy. Additional experience will be considered in lieu of education. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Colorado, safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history. Employment Standards Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of current victim laws. Skill in operation of computers and modern office equipment. Skill in verbal and written communication. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effective interaction with diverse groups of victims. Positive professional relationships with District, County and Municipal Judges, Court Staff, the District Attorney’s Office and other victim/witness advocates. Positive and professional interaction with Town staff and local law‑enforcement agencies to achieve trust and effective exchange of information. Representation of the Town of Parker and the Parker Police Department in adversarial conditions. Ensure all crime victims are treated with fairness, dignity and respect. Pass a pre‑employment background check including drug screen, criminal history search, credit check and polygraph examination. Working Conditions The position is primarily sedentary. The employee must be able to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and, if required, operate a vehicle. The employee must handle varied indoor and outdoor locations and respond to inclement weather. The employee may encounter high‑risk interpersonal situations or emotionally charged environments.
