Job Description Phlebotomist (Clinical Lab Support Rep) – Anacostia – (2600012H) Schedule Monday‑Thursday: 11:30 am‑8 pm Friday: 9 am‑5:30 pm Saturday: 8:30 am‑5 pm (rotating) Sign‑on Bonus Eligible: $5,000 with 2‑year commitment Responsibilities Perform patient services and administrative support in laboratory operations, providing courteous interaction with patients, parents, physicians, and staff under moderate supervision. Responsibilities include Collect, receive, and process specimens; verify patient information and registration; perform specimen processing by centrifugation, aliquoting, and sorting into specific test areas and for storage. Coordinate pickup and delivery of specimens for specific laboratory areas. Troubleshoot specimen processing procedures and investigate improperly labeled specimens, requisition problems, and inadequate specimens. Perform order and result entry, reference lab batch creation/release, and special handling/packaging for send‑out specimens. Schedule and register patients in the computer system, update patient information, and gather demographic and insurance data. Verify insurance eligibility, coverage, and preauthorization/referral information; counsel parents or refer them for financial information. Answer inquiries and give test results by phone, providing general information and specimen requirement questions. Enter patient information, test requests, cancellations, and additions into the computer order program; perform searches, print, and retrieve reports. Check test requisitions for completeness, confirm ICD‑9 codes, and order tests in LIS, attach labels, and place in appropriate location for specimen collection. Maintain laboratory equipment records, order routine inventory, maintain the Lab Customer Service Desk files, and copy, fax, and distribute documents. Assist in routine laboratory tests such as urine dipstick, loading automated analyzers, preparing slides, and setting up simple bacterial/viral cultures. When assigned, train employees, students, and others in the duties described. Qualifications Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED (Required) Minimum Work Experience 2 years of related experience in an accredited clinical setting (Required) Administrative Answer inquiries and give test results by phone; greet patients and parents, verify insurance information, verify preauthorization/referral, counsel parents.
