Plumber III

Plumber III We are hiring two Journeyman Utility Plumbing positions that support campus-wide utility operations. The role involves hands‑on work across a broad range of utility systems, including water distribution, sewer, storm drain, natural gas, and other infrastructure. Responsibilities require a Distribution Grade 4 Water Operator license or the willingness to obtain it with the department. Responsibilities Operate, maintain and repair the culinary water, sewer, storm drain, secondary water, and natural gas systems campus-wide. Operate utility drain cleaning and inspection equipment. Develop an understanding of underground utilities and how they operate. Identify ways to improve the physical condition and operational reliability of utility systems. Train and develop apprentice plumbers as assigned and seek development opportunities for self. Ensure that all work performed complies with best practices, university policies, applicable codes and local, state, and federal laws. Cross‑train with other utility teams to ensure flexibility and reliability across departmental utilities. Complete all assigned training and administrative requirements promptly. Help set and maintain a culture of safety by example and adherence to safety requirements. Communicate professionally and appropriately with university faculty, staff, and students as needed. Minimum Qualifications 3+ years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications Previous certification as a water system operator. Experience in O/M with site utilities. Knowledge of running a jetter for drain cleaning and maintenance. Current certification in Water Distribution Grade 4. Backflow certification. A clean driving record. A strong internal desire to help the University of Utah accomplish its mission. Background Check This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen. Compensation Pay Rate Range: $33.25 - $36.00 per hour.
