Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit position requiring level 1 trauma and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• Work in a 54-bed acute Neuro Med-Surg unit (semi-private rooms)
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and general neuroscience cases with some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Nurse aide/PCT support available at ratios of 1:9-10 on days and evenings, and 1:10-12 on nights
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, with charge nurse not typically taking an assignment
• House-wide telemetry monitoring (Phillips monitors) means RNs are not required to read their own strips
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin gtt based on PTT
• High flow oxygen may occasionally be used for stable COVID patients
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
• Every other holiday coverage required
• Floating required in rotation with staff, primarily to general unit floors
• No call or standby requirements
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license (or application process must be initiated)
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to neuroscience patients, including drip titration and monitoring
• Unit orientation includes 2 days with an educator covering computer systems and unit specifics, plus 1 day with a preceptor for hands-on patient care
• No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted while on duty
• Local candidates accepted; local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius rule restricting eligibility
