Van Driver (Part-Time)

Van Driver

Provide safe transportation for district students to and from various destinations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Conduct and document daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned van including but not limited to checking fluids, air pressure gauges, temperature gauges and other systems that require daily inspections; maintain vehicle log.
• Abide by the preventative maintenance program for school vans as required by PA state law and the Transportation Department.
• Ensure that students enter the van safely, that they are seated appropriately and are using seat belts.
• Transport students safely to and from school or other destinations as assigned by the Transportation Director while following all posted speed limits and safe driving practices.
• Maintain required records including but not limited to student counts, mileage, and others as required.
• Perform practice emergency evacuation drills as required.
• Conduct daily fueling and cleaning of assigned van including but not limited to cleaning windows, removing trash, and cleaning floors.
• Attend in-service workshops and other department meeting scheduled by the Director of Transportation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Required Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees
• May be exposed to atmospheric conditions that include fumes and dust

Education & Experience:

• You MUST have a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Driving record must be free of tickets and accidents.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to reach above and below the waist
• Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
• Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
• Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl
• Ability to lift/carry supplies weighing 50 lbs. or more
• Ability to drive up to eighty percent (80%) of workday

Level of Compensation:

This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $21.75/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $22.25/hour.
