Senior Electrical Engineer

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Senior Electrical Engineer role based in Monroe, NC. The position both manages and designs electrical automation and drive control system projects. The position will provide project estimates, manage projects financially, provide hands-on project design, CAD drawings, programming and equipment setup and commissioning. Good people skills are a must as the position will provide guidance to less senior engineers who will also be performing some of these functions as well as interfacing with customers on projects. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years' experience designing, programming, and implementing industrial automation systems which include variable speed drive control. Experience with Siemens and Allen Bradley products is ideal. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a PE is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Visit customer sites and assist sales personnel with development of proposals for customer desired improvements.
• Provide electrical design and CAD drawings of new drive automation systems.
• Must be very knowledgeable of all applicable US codes for electrical control panel design (UL508A, NEC, NFPA, etc.)
• Specify and initiate procurement of needed materials. Manage costs.
• Provide programming of PLC’s for drive automation systems.
• Provide programming of HMI’s for drive automation systems.
• Parameterize automation devices as necessary for functionality.
• Perform commissioning services on automation systems after they have been installed in the field.
• Tune variable speed drives and parameterize them as necessary in order to properly perform their required function.
• Tune and setup other devices as necessary for full automation system.
• Provide manuals and training to customers as required.
• Provide troubleshooting assistance on equipment when problems arise on customer’s systems.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS – SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably electrical/control system related).
• PE in Electrical Engineering.
• Ten years' experience in industrial automation with significant variable speed drive experience (both AC and DC).
• Must have firm understanding of basic physics and algebraic relations for equipment HP sizing and creating programming algorithms for winding and tension control.
• Experience with industrial communications (Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP strongly desired)
• Ability to learn and apply new information quickly.
