Floor Technician/Building Attendant I

Building Attendant IUnder general supervision, performs intermediate-level duties related to the housekeeping operations in a college setting. Performs routine and non-routine duties, participates in set-up and breakdown for special events, and moves furniture. Performs a variety of cleaning tasks requiring physical fitness, safe working practices, knowledge of cleaning chemicals, methods, procedures, and supplies and equipment. Maintains facilities in a clean, orderly and safe condition.This information is intended to be a descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. Perform other duties as assigned.Scrubs and refinishes floors and/or carpets; refinishes hard, resilient and wood floors; operates mechanical floor cleaners, polishers, and carpet cleaning equipment.Cleans offices, classrooms, lecture halls, theaters, art, dance and athletic facilities. Cleans and services rest rooms and residential quarters; and performs periodic and annual cleaning services/duties.Disposes of trash, recyclables and other debris. Removes graffiti.Performs furniture set-up and breakdown for meetings and special events; moves furniture, such as desks, desk chairs, mattresses and other furniture.Services dispensing machines; activates and deactivates electronic alarm systems; secures facilities.Requests cleaning supplies and materials. Maintains well-stocked, clean and organized supply closets and carts.Performs minor repairs, which may include replacement of lamp bulbs, or tighten door or window screen hinges, knobs and locks. Replacement of vacuum cleaner belts and minor maintenance.Participates in emergency response activitiesPerforms other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties.Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.Must possess knowledge of maintenance, use, safe operation, and repair of cleaning supplies, tools and equipment. Must have knowledge of cleaning chemicals. Must have knowledge of safe working methods and procedures.Requires ability to learn proper use of fire extinguishers.Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, lift up to 50 pounds, with team lift or with material handling equipment.Climb ladders up 10 feet with assistance and up to eight feet unassisted and be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time.Must be able to effectively and efficiently clean and maintain an assigned area within a predetermined time schedule.Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.Must have ability to work well without continuous supervision.Must wear uniforms and safety equipment as required.Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job. Minimum of two years of custodial, housekeeping, building services, building maintenance, or related experience is required, including floor care duties such as stripping, waxing, buffing, refinishing, or operating commercial floor-care equipment.This is a regular status, full-time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position. The scheduled hours for this position are Monday-Friday 2:30 pm-11 pm. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department. Must be available to work rotational weekends and special weekend events as required by the College.Hourly rate range: $19.50-$20.50. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.Regular employment at the College is for no specified period of time; conditions and status of employment (hours, pay, title, duties, etc.) are subject to change at any time.
