SUMMARY

At United Indian Health Services, Inc. (UIHS), Van Drivers in the Behavioral Health Department are responsible for operating company vans or small buses to ensure the safe, timely, and reliable transportation of clients, medical supplies, equipment, office personnel, and visitors to and from healthcare facilities, clinics, or other assigned destinations. Key duties include loading and unloading passengers and materials, preparing and providing appropriate documentation for pickups and deliveries to maintain accuracy and timeliness, and adhering to UIHS vehicle policies for maintenance and presentation. This role demands a strong commitment to excellent customer service, attention to detail, effective communication skills, and completing all assignments within established timeframes and standards, while being guided by the cultural, traditional values, and practices of American Indians and Alaska Natives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Level I

• Safely transports clients for non-emergent services to and from clinical appointments, clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities while prioritizing their comfort and well-being during transit.
• Responsible for the delivery and pickup of medical equipment and/or supplies as needed.
• Follow assigned schedules to ensure timely arrivals and departures of clients, and delivery of medical equipment and/or supplies.
• Makes extended trips requiring irregular hours that will be different than the regular schedule.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections to ensure safety and report any maintenance needs promptly to the Behavioral Health Department Supervisor. Follow all policies and procedures in connection with operating Government Services Administration (GSA) vehicles. Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of GSA vehicles guidelines and protocols.
• Aid in the maintenance of UIHS vehicles.
• Accurately complete transportation logs, mileages records, and other necessary paperwork, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including proper documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for tracking and monitoring transportation appointments.
• Ability to navigate and use EHR system to input and retrieve client information, transportation schedules, and other relevant data.
• Provide outstanding customer service by assisting clients in and out of the vehicle, securing their belongings, and addressing any special needs or concerns.
• Follow all safety protocols and traffic laws to ensure the safety of passengers and/or medical equipment/supplies. Adheres to accreditation, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), compliance standards/guidelines, and UIHS Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) when handling clients and/or client information.
• Familiarity of local transportation services available to clients, including but not limited to public transit systems, ride-sharing services, Tribal services, Partnership HealthPlan services, and cab services.
• Maintain open and effective communication with departmental staff to coordinate transportation arrangements and address any issues or delays.
• Follow established protocols for mandatory reporting of child abuse/neglect and elder abuse.
• Aid Behavioral Health department in covering the day-to-day administrative tasks, including greeting customers, setting appointments, checking in clients to their appointments, answering phones, taking messages and other tasks as needed.
• May coordinate out-of-area travel requests with other organizations with approval of Behavioral Health Director, Manager, and/or Supervisor
• Attend department meetings and other meetings as directed.
• Attend and comply with required trainings.
• Must be willing to learn more about the American Indian culture and attend at least one Cultural Presentation/Training per year.
• Must be willing to work with American Indian/Alaska Native people and demonstrate cultural awareness and humility
• Must be willing to deliver services in a culturally responsive manner.
• Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Level II – In addition to the above-mentioned duties and:

• Assist in the development of departmental policies, procedures, and quality improvement activities within the clinic as directed.
• Work with the Behavioral Health Supervisor in providing training and guidance to new Van Drivers as needed.
• Contributes to the evaluation and improvement of transportation processes and efficiency within the organization.

Level III – In addition to the above-mentioned duties and:

• Work with other departments within UIHS, and external organizations/programs Tribal and non-Tribal to coordinate transportation services and address transportation-related needs. Serving as a liaison between the Behavioral Health Department and external stakeholders.
• Assist the Behavioral Health Department Supervisor with strategic planning and decision-making processes related to transportation services and overall Behavioral Health and organizational goals.
• Assist in the day-to-day operational needs including scheduling and route planning for fellow Van Drivers.

SUPERVISORY   RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Educational degrees must be from a US Department of Education accredited school.

Level I:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Level II:

• Associate degree or two (2) years of related experience in the field or a combination of both.

Level III:

• Associate degree and one (1) year of related experience in the field or three (3) years of related experience in the field or a combination.

COMPUTER OPERATIONS:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Internet Browsing: Using web browsers to search for information; navigating websites effectively; understanding basic internet safety and cyber security practices.
• File Management: Organizing files and folders on a computer; Renaming, copying, moving, and deleting files.
• Typing Skills : proficient typing speed and accuracy.
• Basic Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving common computer issues; restarting systems, clearing caches, and basic troubleshooting techniques.
• Communication Tools: Familiarity with messaging apps and virtual platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
• Electronic Health Records: Experience with Electronic Health Records preferred.
• Data Entry: Accurate and efficient data entry skills; familiarity with data entry software or tools
