Position Summary
The Communications & Policy Associate will support CGC's internal and external policy, communications, and strategic initiatives, helping ensure the organization is aligned internally, engaged effectively with external audiences, and able to communicate clearly about its mission, priorities, and work.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff & Head of External Affairs, the Associate will work across CGC to coordinate high-priority initiatives, support internal organizational communications, monitor and analyze relevant policy and media developments, and translate complex policy and market issues into clear and compelling materials for internal and external audiences.
This role will serve as an important connector across CGC. Internally, the Associate will help leadership and teams communicate priorities, coordinate projects, prepare for meetings and organizational events, track decisions and action items, create and strengthen systems for information sharing and execution. Externally, the Associate will support policy engagement, stakeholder communications, media and digital content, events, and other efforts to advance CGC's mission and visibility.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and highly organized project manager who is intellectually curious, exercises strong judgment, is comfortable working across teams and under strict deadlines, and can quickly understand and communicate complex policy, financial, and organizational issues.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Communications & Organizational Coordination
- Support internal communications from leadership and help ensure staff have clear, timely information about organizational priorities, initiatives, decisions, and major developments.
- Draft and edit internal announcements, leadership updates, talking points, presentations, briefing materials, newsletters, and other internal communications documents.
- Support the planning and execution of organization-wide and team events, including CGC's annual meeting and other key organizational convenings.
- Coordinate cross-functional projects and initiatives on behalf of the Chief of Staff & Head of External Affairs, including developing timelines, tracking deliverables, and following up with stakeholders.
- Prepare agendas, briefing materials, meeting notes, decision logs, and action-item trackers for Senior Leadership team meetings and monthly all team town halls.
- Coordinate closely with Executive Office Executive Assistants to support leadership meetings, communications, events, briefings, and other organizational priorities.
- Develop and improve templates, processes, and tools that strengthen internal information flow, project tracking, and organizational coordination.
- Exercise discretion and strong judgment when handling confidential, sensitive, or not-yet-public information.
- Create and maintain internal tools and systems of communication.
External Affairs:
Policy Research & Engagement
- Monitor federal and state legislative, regulatory, policy, and market developments relevant to CGC's mission, investments, partners, and strategic priorities.
- Conduct research and prepare concise policy memos, briefing materials, talking points, background materials, and other analyses for senior leadership, internal teams, and consultants.
- Translate complex policy and regulatory developments into clear implications for CGC's work, partners, and external positioning.
- Track emerging policy issues and identify developments that may create opportunities, risks, or communications needs for CGC.
- Support preparation for meetings with policymakers, government officials, industry organizations, partners, and other external stakeholders.
External Communications & Digital Content
- Draft and edit external communications, including website content, newsletters, announcements, press materials, talking points, presentations, and other public-facing materials.
- Translate complex policy, project finance, investment, and market-development topics into clear and compelling content for a diverse audience.
- Support communications highlighting CGC investments, partnerships, organizational milestones, market insights, events, and impact.
- Manage routine website content updates and news postings and collaborate with the IT department and other relevant teams on website updates, functionality, and related needs.
- Work with the Digital Associate to support CGC's social media strategy and maintain a regular content calendar across priority platforms.
- Monitor the media landscape across print, digital, and social media; provide timely updates as relevant developments occur and prepare a weekly overview of key coverage, issues, and trends for leadership.
- Support communications surrounding conferences, announcements, partnerships, transactions, and other external events, including speeches, panels, public remarks, presentations, talking points, and briefing materials.
- Help maintain consistent organizational messaging, voice, and brand standards across internal and external channels.
- Track websites, social media, media, and other communications metrics and use insights to help improve reach and engagement.
- Support coordination with external communications, government affairs, design, and other consultants and vendors.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Required
- Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, communications, journalism, economics, environmental studies, business, or related field.
- 4+ years of relevant professional experience in communications, public policy, government affairs, public affairs, research, project management, or related field. Relevant internships and fellowships may count toward experience.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into clear and accessible materials for different audiences.
- Strong research and analytical skills and the ability to quickly become conversant in new policy, market, and organizational issues.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of follow-through.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments, functions, and levels of an organization.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion, particularly when working with confidential or not-yet-public information.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities and external conditions may evolve quickly.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong interest in CGC's mission and in clean energy, climate finance, infrastructure, economic development, public policy, or related issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with federal and/or state energy, environmental, infrastructure, economic, or financial policy.
- Experience drafting executive communications, policy briefs, talking points, presentations, newsletters, or public-facing content.
- Experience supporting internal communications, executive offices, or cross-functional organizational initiatives.
- Experience managing website content, social media channels, newsletters, or other digital communications.
- Familiarity with Jira and Web flow.
- Experience coordinating projects involving multiple internal teams, senior leaders, and external partners or consultants or the desire to gain that experience.
- Familiarity with project finance, green banks, public-private partnerships, or investment firms is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this role is $117,715 – $132,549. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and overall qualifications, and may vary from the stated range.
