Project Manager - Detroit (Water / Wastewater Industry)

Job Summary Brown and Caldwell has a unique development opportunity for a mid to senior level professional engineer with a desire to apply and develop project management, leadership, design and business development skills. This full‑time position will contribute to project delivery and client service teams in winning and executing innovative planning, evaluation, design, permitting and construction support services for a variety of asset management, advanced treatment plants, biosolids, pumping stations, pipeline projects for municipal clients in the area of water and wastewater. The role is for a Civil/Mechanical/Environmental Engineer with a Michigan PE license and will work with Brown and Caldwell's Midwest leaders to advance our growth strategy while providing project oversight and engineering mentorship in our Detroit and surrounding Midwest offices. Execution of BC’s Project Delivery Requirements: Scope: collaborate to prepare detailed scopes of work, set clear expectations and prevent overruns. Schedule: develop and maintain project schedules, allocate resources and mitigate delays. Budget: develop work breakdown structures and project budgets, manage budget to meet performance metrics. Quality management: create, implement and monitor quality plans to enhance client trust and minimize deficiencies. Change management: identify and manage changes, prepare scope and budget for change orders and gain client endorsement. Risk management: identify risks, develop mitigation strategies and continuously monitor and update the risk profile. Health & Safety: lead by example, follow BC policy and client requirements, and develop health and safety plans. External resources: manage third‑party vendors to deliver on scope, quality, budget and schedule. Delivery of Project and Business Performance Metrics: lead achievement of objectives related to scope, schedule, budget and quality; monitor profitability through earned value analysis; forecast revenue and manage invoicing/collections. Client service and sales/marketing support: build relationships with clients, collaborate with client‑service managers and project teams to assess satisfaction; monitor and share clients’ critical success factors. Flexibility to adapt and execute additional assignments based on evolving needs. Mentorship: provide guidance, support and knowledge‑sharing to less experienced team members. Experience Minimum 5 years of relevant experience managing increasingly complex projects; specific competencies in project schedule development, budget monitoring and risk management. Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams. Proof of project planning, risk and change management, and contract management for small to mid‑size projects. Preferred Skills and Experience Municipal water and wastewater engineering and consulting experience with progressively increasing responsibility. Versatility and interest in supporting a variety of projects within Engineering Services. Preparation of engineering calculations and equipment selection, including hydraulics and pumping systems. Education Required: bachelor’s degree in project management, engineering, business administration or equivalent relevant experience. Preferred Education/Certification Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan or ability to obtain via reciprocity within six months of employment. Salary Range Location A: $95,000 – $129,000 (anticipated). Salary may be adjusted based on skills, experience and education.
