CLOSING DATE: August 18, 2026 POSITION: Resource Teacher REPORTS TO: Principal POSITION SUMMARY: To develop each student's individual academic and social competencies and emotional capacities in group settings using creative, state-of-the-art instructional methods and techniques that require individual commitment, energy, collaboration, and growth. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Demonstrate knowledge of the subject to be taught. • Demonstrate facility in the skills of reading, writing, and mathematics in accordance with the Connecticut Competency Instrument. • Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development as it relates to the teaching-learning process. • Demonstrate knowledge of the American public school system. • Plan and implement appropriate instruction using effective instructional techniques toward the achievement of selected objectives set forth within the specified district-approved curriculum. • Effectively communicate with students, providing directions and explanations in a clear, coherent and logical manner, clearly outlining expectations for students, establishing rapport and communicating personal enthusiasm and self-confidence. • Help students develop positive self-concepts by recognizing and understanding the worth of all students, demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for the needs and feelings of all students, as well as patience, empathy and enthusiasm. • Effectively assess students' daily academic progress within set parameters and adjust instruction accordingly to meet academic needs. • Provide an opportunity for students to receive after-class instruction, tutoring, or guidance. • Lead and manage the classroom to provide a positive learning environment for students. • Facilitate the independence of the student as a learner. • Solicit and facilitate the cooperative involvement and support of parents by establishing ongoing two-way communication with parents, looking for opportunities for parent and community involvement, communicating goals and objectives to parents, conducting parent-teacher conferences, and using community resources in instruction. • Work within the scope of Board policy and school procedures. • Meet professional responsibilities and expectations. •
Keep parents informed on a regular basis about the learning process of the students. • Use technology in instruction in accordance with the Hartford Public School Technology Plan by integrating state-of-the-art technology into the curriculum to actively engage students in learning. • Competently perform the duties specified above and any other related duties assigned by the administrator. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES OF IDEAL CANDIDATE: • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in research-based instructional techniques that lead to increased student learning. • Effective organizational skills with regard to the utilization of time, space, materials, and equipment for instruction. • Effective verbal and written communication. • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in planning lessons and in the use of alternative teaching strategies to maximize student learning. • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the evaluation of student learning. • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices as they relate to the teaching-learning process. • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in classroom management. Education & Certification Requirements Candidates must have a conferred bachelor's OR master's degree from an accredited institution and must also possess and maintain the certification and/or licensure requirements for this position as established by the Connecticut state statutes.
Salary Pay will be commensurate with experience, educational level, and in accordance with the Hartford Federation of Teachers' (HFT) Collective Bargaining Agreement salary schedule. The bargaining agreement salary range for the school year 2026-2027 is $55,643 to $114,267 OR FOR HTF: $63,362/$71,512 to $114,267.
