Union Grove Baptist Church has been a loving family of faith for 116 years.  Since its humble beginning under a brush arbor in 1910, our church has withstood many changes and challenges.  But the one thing that remains the same is that we want to reach out to the community around us to spread the Gospel of Jesus, to be His hands and feet, and to serve those in our community with the love of Jesus Christ.

Position Overview

The Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader, under-shepherd, and teacher of the congregation. He is responsible for communicating God’s Word, providing biblical leadership, and equipping the church to fulfill the Great Commission. He will shepherd a multi-generational flock and actively engage with the local rural community.

Core Responsibilities

1. Preaching and Teaching

Prepare and deliver Biblically grounded, topical/expositional sermons for Sunday morning and evening worship services.
Lead mid-week Bible studies or special seasonal services (e.g., Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter).
Provide overarching direction for the discipleship and spiritual education of all ages.
2. Pastoral Care and Shepherding

Visit church members, the elderly, and homebound individuals in their homes, hospitals, and nursing facilities.
Provide foundational biblical counseling and spiritual guidance to church families.
Officiate at religious ceremonies including sacraments, weddings, funerals, baby dedications, and baptisms.
3. Spiritual Leadership and Administration

Meet regularly and collaborate with the Board of Deacons and church committees to guide the church’s vision.
Lead business meetings while ensuring smooth operations and adherence to church standards.
Oversee and mentor church staff (e.g., Youth Director, Secretary, Treasurer) as applicable.
4. Community Engagement and Outreach

Serve as a visible, caring presence and liaison in the local, rural community.
Work alongside mission coordinators for church evangelism efforts and organizing local mission/ministry projects.
5. Denominational Cooperation

Foster active partnership and fellowship with the local Baptist Association, State Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
Encourage church participation in and giving to the SBC Cooperative Program.
Qualifications and Requirements

Spiritual Maturity: Meet the biblical qualifications of an overseer/elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
Doctrinal Alignment: Fully affirm and teach in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
Calling & Ordination: Clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ, a definitive call to pastoral ministry, and ordination as a Southern Baptist minister.
Education & Experience:
A seminary degree from an SBC-affiliated institution is preferred.
Pastoral or ministry experience required
Personal Attributes: 
Strong interpersonal skills and a focus for developing connections in a multi-generational congregation. 
A genuine heart for connecting with rural  community
Diligent in leading the church to a deeper relationship with Jesus
Fervent and able to inspire passion in others.

Union Grove Baptist Church is located in Marshville, NC, a rural, farming town in Union County, North Carolina.  UGBC has approximately 100 active members.  The congregation is a mature congregation with most members ranging in age from 40 – 80.

Union County, NC has an estimated population of over 267,000. Union County’s population is projected to reach approximately 299,000 by 2030.  The county is expected to remain one of the fastest growing suburban communities, driven heavily by our proximity to the greater Charlotte metro area. We have a great opportunity for evangelism and community engagement as we seek to share the Gospel with the unchurched community around us.
