Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PACU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (09:30 - 22:00) Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Active RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS Must-Have: Previous Charge Experience: Preferred Patient Ratio Experience: 2:1 Charting System Experience: Required Charting System Name: Epic Description: Supports recovery services for operating room, catheterization lab, interventional radiology, endoscopy, and cardiac in-patient and out-patient procedures. Requires ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications and an active RN license. Three years of experience is mandatory. Skills include: Inpatient care Phase I PACU Arterial line management Dysrhythmia recognition and management Blood product administration Central line care and management IV vasopressors Narcotics and opioid analgesics Reversal agents External ventricular drain (EVD) management Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring Care of ventilated patients Conscious sedation Post-epidural management General anesthesia Local anesthesia Monitored anesthesia care (MAC) Nerve blocks Malignant hyperthermia protocol Pain assessment and management Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump management Richmond agitation sedation scale (RASS) Bariatric surgical care Ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery General surgery Gynecological surgery Neurosurgery Ophthalmology Orthopedic procedures Vascular surgery Outpatient pain management Pediatric PACU care Phase II recovery Gastric bypass surgery Gastric sleeve procedure Lap band management Central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair Cardiac arrest and CPR management Cardioversion procedures Carotid endarterectomy Pacemaker insertion Post-catheterization lab procedures Management of vascular surgeries Protocols for hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia Insulin protocols Radical neck dissection Tonsillectomy Cholecystectomy Colon surgery Whipple procedure Arteriovenous fistula or shunt care Renal surgeries Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) Bilateral tubal ligation Hysterectomy Mastectomy PICC line care and management Starting and maintaining IVs Antiarrhythmic management Anticoagulation therapy Antihypertensive management Emergency medications Anterior and posterior spinal fusion Cervical fusions Craniotomy Spine surgery Stroke scale assessments Circulation checks Open reduction and internal fixation Total joint replacements Management of pediatric patients Abdominoplasty Breast augmentation Airway assessment Chest tube management End-tidal CO2 monitoring Extubation of laryngeal mask airway or endotracheal tube Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) Intubation procedures Placement of oral and nasal airways Discharge instructions Obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG Wound VAC management Interpretation and communication of lab values Isolation precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) Endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures Neurosurgery and spine care Orthopedic and spinal procedures Plastic surgery Podiatry Robotic surgeries Thoracic procedures Urology care Interdisciplinary support includes: IV teams Physical therapy Respiratory services Interpretation services Social services Rapid response teams Pharmacy Transportation Patient diagnoses will include adult and pediatric cases. Daily census averages 85, with approximately 90 visits per day. The unit consists of 32 beds.
