Job Summary
We are seeking a Cytotechnologist / Cytologist to join a clinical laboratory team in Greenville, SC. This position is responsible for the microscopic examination of cellular specimens to identify abnormal, pre-malignant, and malignant cells and other evidence of disease.
The ideal candidate will have experience screening gynecological and non-gynecological cytology specimens and a strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and patient care.
Responsibilities
- Examine gynecological and/or non-gynecological cytology slides according to established protocols.
- Identify cellular abnormalities and evidence of pre-malignant, malignant, and other disease processes.
- Accurately document and record screening findings in the laboratory computer system.
- Maintain required daily screening records and departmental logs.
- Identify and resolve issues that may adversely affect testing performance or patient result reporting.
- Communicate significant findings, technical concerns, and departmental issues to appropriate laboratory leadership.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshoot methods or equipment as needed.
- Assist with documentation and maintenance of QA/QC programs and quality monitoring activities.
- Maintain established productivity and screening expectations.
- Follow laboratory safety precautions and established departmental procedures.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of protected health information and other sensitive data.
- Follow applicable regulatory, compliance, privacy, and security requirements.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Minimum of two years of college education and graduation from an approved School of Cytotechnology.
- ASCP certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) required.
- Appropriate state licensure is preferred, where applicable.
- Minimum of one year of Cytotechnologist experience preferred, including screening of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens.
- Strong microscopic screening and cellular morphology skills.
- Ability to recognize abnormal, pre-malignant, and malignant cellular changes.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accurate and timely results.
- Knowledge of quality assurance, quality control, laboratory safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Must maintain appropriate continuing education for certification and applicable licensure.
