Assistant Cross Country Coach

Responsibilities
- Assist head coach in planning and implementing training sessions tailored to various skill levels and age groups
- Support athletes during practices and competitions, providing guidance on technique, pacing, and strategy
- Help monitor athlete safety by enforcing rules, managing behavior, and ensuring proper use of equipment
- Contribute to team organization by preparing equipment, tracking attendance, and maintaining training logs
- Foster a positive team environment through encouragement, leadership, and effective communication with students and parents
- Assist in organizing team events, meets, and community outreach activities
- Support injury prevention efforts by recognizing signs of fatigue or distress and assisting with first aid or AED operation when necessary
Skills
- Experience working with children or youth in sports or educational settings
- Strong background in cross country running or related endurance sports
- Knowledge of sports-specific training instruction and coaching techniques
- Familiarity with soccer coaching, cheerleading, climbing, martial arts (such as karate or judo), basketball or other team sports is a plus
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and staff effectively
- Ability to manage behavior positively while maintaining discipline during practices and competitions
- Certifications in first aid and CPR; AED operation experience preferred
- Prior experience in sports coaching or physical education teaching is highly desirable
- Background in health club or gym environments is advantageous for understanding fitness fundamentals
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a proactive approach to team development and motivation
